Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art opens new gallery space: What to know, in 60 seconds
FALL RIVER — The Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art has moved to its new location, closer to downtown, and is kicking off with an appropriately named exhibition.
The First Show opens Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Here's what to know if you go:
Where is the FR MoCA?
The group’s new exhibit space is at 44 Troy St. — what was, until 2021, the home of American Wallpaper & Design Center. FR MoCA previously had its home on the first floor of the Merrow building, near the corner of Bedford and Robeson Streets.
Arts grants: Two Fall River groups got $140K. Their projects will benefit the whole city.
What is The First Show?
The show will focus on “social and natural ecology,” with artists presenting pieces that are “humanizing approaches to various technological interventions of the world around us.” Artists on view will be Rachel Rosheger, Gregory Kalliche and Clare Koury of New York City, Kevin Hernandez Rosa of Connecticut, Baijun Chen of Rhode Island and Isaiah Raines of Massachusetts, who has created work in and inspired by Fall River.
FR MoCA will also have information available about their native pollinator garden project, called The First Garden.
When is the gallery space open to view the art on display?
Besides FR MoCA’s grand opening, the space is open Fridays to Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. The First Show will be up through January.
Do I need tickets to get in?
No. The gallery space is free and open to the public.
