Fall 2018-19 Broadcast TV Schedule Grid: Welcome To 1988 & The CW On Sundays

Turns out the 2018-2019 primetime broadcast TV season is going to look a lot like the last year of Ronald Reagan’s presidency thanks to reboots, recycling and football.

Moonlighting isn’t back yet, but click through more of Roseanne and the debut of Tim Doyle’s 1972-set The Kids Are Alright — The Wonder Years by any other name — on ABC, and Tuesdays are very 1988. The return of Candice Bergen’s Murphy Brown to CBS after two decades and the reboot of Magnum P.I. on the House of Moonves on Mondays is more Reagan Era riches for viewers in Donald Trump’s America.

As you check out the full schedule below, are you feeling enough nostalgia for the late-’80s yet Well, throw into the mix a second season of the CW’s Dynasty reboot, which is staying on Fridays, and hold it up to the 1988-1989 season where the then-Joan Collins-starring series ran on ABC on Thursdays. Amidst the never-ending and rotation of cop shows, doctor shows, legal dramas and sitcoms, there is a whole lot of primetime NFL action on NBC and Fox – aka 1988’s Monday Night Football on other networks and under other names.

Shall we mention that Lethal Weapon with Seann William Scott aboard is back for a second season? Of course, 1988 was the year before the first and second film in the Mel Gibson- and Danny Glover-starring movie franchise.

Among a plethora of Greg Berlanti-produced shows, perhaps the newest move of this upcoming season is that The CW is planting a flag on Sundays. Shifting from Mondays, the fourth season of Supergirl will be partnered with the reboot of Charmed on one of TV’s biggest nights. While a throwback of sorts, the new Charmed is more of Bill Clinton’s time than Reagan as the original debuted in 1998 – just 20 years old now.
