‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Puerto Rico Production Delayed Due to Earthquakes

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” production in Puerto Rico has been temporarily delayed due to recent earthquakes which have devastated the island, TheWrap has confirmed.

Puerto Rico was hit with a 6.4 magnitude earthquake last Tuesday and then hit with a 5.9 magnitude quake on Saturday. The Disney+ series from Marvel Studios was due to shoot in Puerto Rico this month for two weeks. Production is expected to resume elsewhere.

The series stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, who are reprising their big-screen roles as Sam Wilson aka Falcon and Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, respectively. The upcoming series will likely focus on Sam Wilson aka Falcon taking on the mantle of Captain America. Marvel fans will recall that an elder Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) handed Sam the Captain’s shield at the end of “Avengers: Endgame.”

Emily VanCamp and Daniel Bruhl are in talks to reprise their roles as Sharon Carter and Helmut Zemo.

Kari Skogland will direct the six-part miniseries, which is eyeing an August 2020 debut. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has teased that the Disney+ series will be a major factor in the ongoing narrative of the MCU.

“These will be major storylines, set within the MCU, with ramifications that will be felt both through the other Disney+ series we’re producing and our features on the big screen,” Feige said at an investor event in April that unveiled Disney+. “A post-‘Endgame’ MCU will be extremely different and extremely focused on Disney+ tying into our future movies.”

Along with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios is developing “WandaVision” (with Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen); “Loki,” a series focusing on the Asgardian charlatan who debuted in 2011’s “Thor”; and an untitled series staring Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye/Ronin.
