Valentine’s Day is all about love — self-love, romantic love, friendly love — so what better way to show yourself (or your partner) a little extra appreciation than with a new piece of lingerie?

Whether it’s an ornate bra or sexy piece of shapewear, slipping into a new piece of lingerie can make you feel like a million bucks. And if you’re wondering where to start shopping, we’ve unearthed an entire treasure trove of intimate brands that are ready to take your collection to the next level.

From Rihanna’s famed lingerie brand Savage x Fenty to celeb-loved basics brand Aerie, there’s a wide variety of intimates from bralettes to bustiers ready for you to fall in love with this season. “We believe that everyone should wear what ever makes them feel good,” Adam Selman, Chief Design Officer, and Emily Whitehead, Senior Design Director at Savage x Fenty, tell PEOPLE. “Whether you’re looking for something easy to wear every day, or something more fashion — you should feel sexy no matter what. There are no limits to lingerie.

You don’t need a partner to have a reason to wear something sexy — simply having matching bras and underwear to wear underneath your everyday clothes can be just the thing to give you that little boost of confidence.

Whether you want to turn up the heat in your sleepwear or start your lingerie collection off strong, we’ve hand-picked the best lingerie for you this Valentine’s Day.

Best Festive: Victoria’s Secret Fun and Flirty Unlined Demi Bra

See at Victoriassecret.com

Nothing says “happy Valentine’s Day” like delicate pink lace and a smattering of red hearts, a combo that Victoria’s Secret understands all too well.

This adorable unlined bra features sweet ruched lining along the cups of the bra and underwire support, sans padding for optimal comfort. A small red embroidered heart embellishes the center of a bra for an extra flirty touch, and the whole look comes together with the matching ruffle-adorned thong (though we’re also loving this romper with the same print if you prefer a one-piece).

Sizes: 32A-40F | Colors: 7 | Material: Polyamide, elastane | Care: Hand wash cold

Best Budget: Guoeappa Sexy Soft Lace Lingerie Set

$25 at Amazon.com

Want to feel like a million bucks without shelling out the same amount of cash? Overspending on lingerie is a thing of the past with this lacy set from Amazon. Featuring a scalloped-edge lace bra and matching high-cut underwear, this set is comparable to some of the other options we’re eyeing this year, just at a much lower price.

Our only qualm: It doesn’t allow you to choose your own bottom size, just the bra, so you have to reference the product’s size chart to see which bottom correlates with your top. However, we do like that you can score this set in a variety of shades and materials — from fiery red lace to blue mesh with embroidered flowers. Add ‘em all to your cart, why don’t you!

Sizes: 32B-40D | Colors: 17 | Material: Lace, cotton | Care: Hand wash

Best Everyday: SKIMS Fits Everybody T-Shirt Bra

$44 at Nordstrom.com

$52 at Skims.com

Let’s face it, it doesn’t always feel justifiable to splurge on a new set of lingerie just for one holiday. And while we wholeheartedly believe in treating ourselves, we also want to make sure that our purchases are (usually) functional. That’s why we like the SKIMS T-Shirt Bra — a stretchy, comfortable, no-frills bra that laid nicely under our favorite tops when we tested it, earning a spot on our list of the most comfortable bras this year.

This limited-edition red-orange shade is perfect for the practical shopper who wants to spice things up for Valentine’s Day.

Sizes: 32A-46F | Colors: 16 | Material: Polyamide, elastane | Care: Machine wash cold, do not dry clean

Best Shapewear: Shapellx Lace V-Neck Bodysuit

$40 at Amazon.com

See at Shapellx.com

Sometimes, in order to feel and look our very best, we like to slip into some shapewear — but most of it tends to look boring, come in only black and tan shades, and not be “cute” enough to stand on its own. Enter: the Shapellx Lace V-Neck Bodysuit, a more decorative selection from a brand we love at PEOPLE.

This lacy bodysuit features three layers of fabric for corset-like control and cup support, so you can ditch your bra altogether. Whether you’re wearing this piece under your clothes or alone, this bodysuit is sure to make your waist look “snatched” and your style ultra-sexy.

Sizes: S-XXXL | Colors: 1 | Material: Nylon, spandex | Care: Hand wash, do not dry clean

Best Size-Inclusive: Savage x Fenty X-Rated Lace Teddy

See at Savagex.com

Whether its your hobbies, your interests, or the clothes you like to wear — you have range, so you want the brands you’re shopping from to have the same when it comes to sizing. Savage x Fenty, Rihanna’s lingerie brand, easily takes the cake when it comes to size inclusivity. Without sacrificing style, Savage x Fenty’s racy assortment of bras, underwear, and lingerie accommodate frames from extra small to 4XL, because every body is a lingerie body.

This lavender lace number features a scalloped trim and lightly supported underwire cups with adjustable straps, providing a custom fit for every wearer. We also love the ultra-high leg, brazilian cut fishnet bottom, and decorative back straps joined by rose gold hardware — a style that looks good on every body.

“Whether you’re treating yourself to something simple and sweet, or a sexy delight that gives you (or your partner) a thrill, we want everyone who slips into something Savage this Valentine’s Day to look good and feel good,” says Selman and Whitehead.

Best Size-Inclusive, Less Expensive: Parade Luminous Contour Demi Bodysuit

See at Yourparade.com

We’re all about saving a few dollars where we can, which is why we love the inclusivity that Parade’s lingerie provides with no shortage of style. This sultry, lace-paneled bodysuit features sculpted, underwired cups with a notch detail in the front — and most importantly is available in sizes XS to 3XL (though some of their other styles go up to 5XL).

Sizes: XS-XXXL | Colors: 2 | Material: Unlisted | Care: Unlisted

Best Nude Shades: Cuup The Mesh Balconette

See at Shopcuup.com

The default “nude” color for bras, tights, and even bandages is, to some brands, often a light shade of beige — making it harder for people with deeper skin tones to find true matches to their skin when it comes to undergarments. This balconette bra from Cuup is not only sexy due to its mesh fabric, but comes in an array of shades, skin-like and colorful, to fit a variety of “nude” shades and add a pop of color, too.

Other honorable mentions include the lacy underwire balconette bra from Love, Vera, a Black-owned lingerie brand, and SKIMS Weightless Scoop Bra, which features 10 varying shades of skin-like hues, from fair to deep.

Sizes: 30A-44H | Colors: 48 | Material: Nylon, spandex | Care: Hand wash cold, dry flat

Best Adaptive: AE The Liberare Bralette

See at Ae.com

You may get up and get dressed without thinking about the process, but an act as simple as fastening your bra can be challenging for those with physical disabilities. The Liberare Bra and matching side-opening underwear are here to fix that — serving as adaptive-friendly undergarments that are not only designed for easy dressing, but are super cute, as well.

This innovative bra features front loops and magnetic clasps that can help those with prosthetics or minimal reach close their bralettes in the front, while the underwear can be fastened at the side with Velcro. Both the bra and underwear are made with super-soft fabric and sexy, sheer lace to add a bit of edge to these inclusive undergarments.

Sizes: XXS-XXL | Colors: 2 | Material: Polyester, elastane, cotton | Care: Hand wash or machine wash cold on gentle cycle, hang dry

Best Maternity: Victoria’s Secret Trueluxe Flexiwire Maternity Bra

See at Victoriassecret.com

There’s a lot that comes with motherhood, and new types of bras are likely on that list of essentials — but who says these can’t be as flirty as the others in your drawer? This lacy bra comes in an array of romantic colors and features magnetic twist cups that can easily fold down when you need to nurse or pump.

The padding is light and absorbent in order to keep things comfortable and features flexible underwire for light support. Comfort is key when it comes to maternity intimates, but that doesn’t have to mean boring. In fact, this bra is anything but.

Band Sizes: 32-38 | Cup Sizes: D-I | Colors: 3 | Material: Nylon, polyester, elastane | Care: Machine wash cold, gentle cycle

Best for Masectomies: AnaOno Gloria Soft Lace Bralette

See at Anaono.com

All women deserve to feel empowered and beautiful — but especially those who have braved the trials and tribulations of mastectomies and other breast surgeries. The Gloria Soft Lace Bralette from AnaOno is a comfortable, underwire-free bra that features pocketed cups to fit several sizes of modesty pads or lightweight breast forms, should they be needed.

The bra is elevated with a detailed lace pattern and delicate bow at the center, because post-surgery bras should be able to be flirty, too. Not only will you or your loved ones feel confident in their new bra, but they can wear it for as long as they’d like — from freshly post-op to years down the line.

Sizes: S-XXL | Colors: 2 | Material: Nylon, spandex | Care: Machine wash cold, gentle cycle

Best Lace: Simone Perele Karma Underwire Lace Demi Bra

$105 at Nordstrom.com

Nothing screams romance quite like lace, which is why most lingerie has some element of the fancy fabric — but we prefer this Simone Perele bra over the rest.

Outfitted with scalloped, intricately-woven black lace, this demi-bra features light-to-no lining for a bra that’s suitable for special occasions and everyday wear. But if you prefer a little more padding, we like this version of the bra, which features full-coverage cups and removable straps for strapless tops.

Sizes: 32B-36F | Colors: 4 | Material: Polyamide, elastane | Care: Hand wash, dry flat

This budget-friendly set from Amazon features oversized baby pink bows placed front and center on both both the bra and underwear, which are further detailed with embroidery and mesh. Plus, you can grab it in a variety of other romantic hues.

How to Pick the Right Lingerie for Valentine’s Day

Style

You may automatically think of bras and underwear when you think of undergarments, but there are several styles and silhouettes out there in the world of lingerie. From corsets to comfy slip dresses like the SKIMS Soft Lounge Long Slip Dress, there are seemingly endless variations to choose from.

"Some of the popular trends we’re noticing this year are sheer slips, ruffles, feminine frills, bold colors, and unique floral lace,” says Selman and Whitehead. But the design executives say that the best part is seeing how every individual wears their lingerie to make it their own: “Just like our brand visionary and founder, Rihanna!”

“We find that detailed embellishments in bra and panty sets are popular,” adds Dr. Sapna Palep, co-CEO of Journelle. “Bodysuits are hot right now, [and so are] Italian nightie styles that are short and flirty.” (We’re eyeing the Intimissimi Pretty Flowers Babydoll and Shapellx Lace V-Neck Shapewear, in particular.)

“If someone is looking for a style that hits both comfort and sexy, then our personal favorite is the balconette bra style,” Selman and Whitehead tell PEOPLE. “It gives ‘peaches on a platter!’”

Accessibility

Styles will change according to accessibility, too, as everyone should be able to celebrate their bodies on Valentine’s Day and every day that follows. Women who have undergone breast surgery may require specific styles that are different from what is readily available on the market, which bras like the AnaOno Gloria Soft Lace Bralette can accommodate.

Similarly, those with a shorter range of motion often need specially tailored undergarments for easy dressing, which The Liberare Bra from Aerie offers a solution to. Pieces like these, with velcro closures and easy-to-grab loops, go to show that everyone’s personal style and needs can be met with style in lingerie, so you can feel your best while looking like it, too.

Size

Like picking out any bra, it’s important to be measured correctly at a fitting to be sure which size lingerie you should buy. “Not all brands run the same, so it’s important to have an expert bra fitting and know your own measurements,” says Dr. Palep. From there, you can assess the measurement chart on the site from which you’ve chosen your new piece(s) and compare them to your own to find your best size.

Comfort

Nobody likes a digging bra strap or underwire that pokes, so it’s important to consider the comfort level you’re looking for in your new pieces. Several kinds of lingerie, like the Cosabella Triangle Bralette and Aerie Show Off Bralette, are completely wireless and eliminate the uncomfortable pressure of typical underwire bras. But if you’d rather go for soft material over eye-catching tulle, then you may prefer the SKIMS Everyday T-Shirt Bra over the rest.

Andrea Jagaric, Chief Design Officer at Aerie, Offline and Unsubscribed, feels that fashion and functionality should collide when it comes to intimates. “In the industry today, we see women prioritize comfort and therefore have further invested in bras and bralettes with that in mind,” Jagaric says. It’s all about quality and comfort over quantity or appearance (though who doesn’t love pretty lingerie?).

Price

Lingerie can range between several price points, but you’ll find that the best quality is found at a higher price. “A quality lingerie set uses high end fabrics. Look for well made, quality styles that fit, support and are comfortable on your skin,” says Dr. Palep. To the pros, true quality comes at a price.

“Some of the easiest ways to discern lingerie quality is the fabric and fit of the garment,” says Selman and Whitehead. “Fabric should be soft, yet durable to support your assets, and trims should have good recovery — a key necessity for achieving a great fit.”

While you can score festive finds for less than $30, like this matching set from Amazon, you’ll often find much better stitching, softer fabrics, and more seamless padding when buying lingerie from higher-end retailers like Simone Perele or Fleur Du Mal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of lingerie should I buy?

Whichever style of lingerie you choose to invest in is completely up to you, but what matters most is which silhouettes make you feel confident and comfortable. If you want to accentuate a certain area of your body, like your chest, then a push-up bra or fun bustier could be an option for you.

On the other hand, if you feel best in loose-fitting lingerie that has some movement to it, then you may want to opt for a babydoll or slip nightgown. There’s plenty of options to choose from, so be adventurous and have fun.

How do I know what size(s) I should buy?

“Size is what you feel good in first,” Jagaric answers. Your measurements may change from brand to brand depending on how their designs are made, so it’s always best to get a fitting in-store. But if your only option is to shop online, then several brands, including Aerie, offer  fit-finder technologies that allow you to figure out your correct size via size charts in the product description of your desired piece.

You can also go by “sister sizing” if your usual size is sold out. “Go up a band size and down a cup size: If you usually wear a 34C, try a 36B. If you usually wear a 36D, try a 34DD,” Aerie’s measurement chart explains.

How can I style lingerie in my outfits?

Your lingerie shouldn’t only be stylish, but also functional for your everyday life — so it’s worth considering how you can style it in your wardrobe, as well.

“Your lingerie can always be incorporated into your outfits when you have beautiful styles that are meant to be seen,” Palpa says. “Look for fun colors – whether subtle or bold, [or] detailed straps, lacy cups, embellishments, and extras in your bras, bodysuits, bustiers to peek through to accentuate any outfit.”

It can be hard to picture this in your mind’s eye, so celebrity stylist Mary Fellowes has a few suggestions to illustrate these ideas:

Blazers: “I love a blazer or tux for the evening where it is buttoned on the midriff to show a peek of bra,” Fellowes says. The Bluebella Valentina Wired Bra is the perfect option for this layering technique to evoke the Valentine’s Day mood.

Accents: Fellowes suggests styling “sheer, loose, high-neck top for dinner with a solid or lace bodysuit under,” which we think the Savage x Fenty X-Rated Lace Teddy is perfect for.

High-Waisted Pants: A little top and high-waisted pants is the formula for a perfectly balanced Valentine’s day ‘fit. Fellowes recommends a “corset or bustier paired with high-waisted pants [and] a loose cardigan or off the shoulder sweater added over,” for an effortlessly elevated look.
