"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is coming back, and its pilot episode is filming in Hutto this week.

This is technically the show's second revival, as it first aired on ABC from 2004 to 2012 and then moved to HGTV in 2020 for 10 episodes. Now, the show is in development at ABC with hosts Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin. The duo is well-known for their company The Home Edit, which offers organizational products and services, and their Netflix series "Get Organized with the Home Edit."

Here's what we learned at the home construction site:

The fastest build in the South

Construction on the new Hutto home began at 5 p.m. Monday with only the foundation in place. Volunteers put up the frame, and since then, they've worked non-stop. Saturday is the last day of filming and building, making for a total 94-hour construction cycle.

A partnership with Taylor Morrison

The pilot episode worked with home building company Taylor Morrison to construct the house in its self-made Hutto neighborhood.

"When we were asked to build this home for this deserving family, we were beyond the moon," said April Whitaker, Taylor Morrison’s Austin division president. "But I will say though that philanthropy is in our DNA here at Taylor Morrison, and looking around seeing this amazing community come together, seeing our team members come together, has just been a wonderful thing."

Help from the Austin-area community

Whitaker said over 2,000 volunteers are helping construct the home, and more are welcome to join.

For those who aren't handy or experienced in home construction, volunteer opportunities include assisting with setup, serving food to other volunteers and shuttling people from parking areas.

Picking the lucky family

The chosen Austin area family found out only on Monday that they'd be receiving a brand-new home, Whitaker said.

The show had put out a casting call for Central Texas, and interested applicants could nominate themselves or others. The final families then underwent interviews before the show settled on the soon-to-be Hutto homeowners.

Whitaker said a local church is storing the family's belongings while they wait for construction to finish.
