In the final scene of one of the most-anticipated Netflix movies in 2023, Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is imprisoned with his handler, Nik (Golshifteh Farahani). Rake’s fate takes a turn when a mysterious stranger (Idris Elba) visits him and extends an escape route for Rake and Nik from their confinement. It turns out the stranger (whose name is Alcott) initially brought forth the mission to liberate Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili). Now, Alcott proposes they engage in another assignment on his behalf, pledging their freedom as a reward. When Rake asks the stranger’s name, he is informed that what matters more is who he works for. Unfortunately, the identity of this other “gnarly” and enigmatic individual is left undisclosed.
While fans may have to wait a bit, hopes for a third installment in Russo brothers-produced action-packed franchise are high. The Extraction 2 ending leaves the door open for another sequel, but much depends on the film’s success. The first installment gained significant popularity upon its release in April 2020 and quickly became one of the platform’s most-watched movies. According to the streamer’s viewing metrics, the Netflix original film was watched by over 99 million households within its first month of release, making it one of the platform’s biggest successes.
