Explore local history at book event

Jan. 11—Local history lovers should take a short drive south on Friday to Lamont. The library branch is hosting an event with Ruth Leon Barba, author of "Arvin, Lamont, and Weedpatch."

The book is part of the Images of America series, which depicts interesting moments in history through archive photos. Many areas of Kern County have been featured in the book series, including most recently Bakersfield, which was written by veteran journalist and historian Robert Price.
