Experts slugfest: Our first 2024 Golden Globe predictions

The Golden Globes still don’t have a home, but they do have two new categories. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss the new additions and share their first Globe predictions.

Earlier this week, the Golden Globes announced two new categories: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures and Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television. (To do this, the Globes recombined the genre-split TV supporting categories it only created last season into one again.) The latter category is self-explanatory, but what does “cinematic and box office achievement” even mean? And is this a way of giving “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer” something so another movie could win Best Drama Film or Best Comedy/Musical Film?

We next go over our first set of Globe predictions, in which we match four slots out of five in most cases. Will “Saltburn” edge out “Anatomy of a Fall” with the group? Can “Nyad” nab two acting wins without a Best Drama Film nomination? And who will be left out in the Globes’ single screenplay category?

Elsewhere, we discuss the end of the writers’ strike and more.
