The time has come. The 96th Academy Awards are finally upon us — an hour earlier too (on top of Daylight Saving Time). Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here with their 2024 Oscar winner predictions.

Most of the above-the-line categories feel fairly if not completely settled except for one, of course: Best Actress. After splitting the BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild Awards, respectively, Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) and Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) feel neck and neck, though the latter has taken over the top spot in the odds. Does it matter that Gladstone wasn’t even nominated at BAFTA in a half-juried category? And how does the presence of Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”) — who was snubbed at the SAG Awards — change things?

While “Oppenheimer” is expected to dominate, there are several categories below the line — some of which features the Christopher Nolan hit — that feel like coin-flips as well. Will “Maestro” hold off “Poor Things” in Best Makeup and Hairstyling like it did at the guild awards? Or will “Poor Things” prevail like it did at BAFTA? And can “Poor Things” claim Best Costume Design and Best Production Design over early season favorite “Barbie”? And what to do in the confounding Best Visual Effects race?

Elsewhere, we discuss Bradley Cooper‘s campaign, wonder if “Nyad” was 11th in Best Picture and more.
