Mishael Morgan, the daytime soap star who made history in 2022 by becoming the first Black actress to win Outstanding Lead Actress at the Daytime Emmys, is set to briefly reprise her role as Amanda Sinclair on The Young and the Restless

On recurring status since 2022, Morgan is set to return to the CBS sudser this week. (Sadly, that’s all the show will reveal; it won’t share her exact appearance date because it comes with a story twist).

More from Deadline

Morgan first teased her return via Instagram in January. “Guess who’s popping in for a visit!!” she wrote.

Morgan hasn’t appeared on Y&R since March 2023.

The actress, whose previous credits include Chicago Med, joined the sudser in 2013 — first as Hilary, who eventually died in a car crash five years later. Morgan then started a new run on Y&R as Amanda, Hilary’s twin, the following year.

In 2022, Morgan received a standing ovation when she was awarded her first Daytime Emmy. She had previously earned two nominations for her work in Y&R.

“I was born on a tiny island in the Caribbean, and I’m now standing on an international stage and I am being honored regardless of the color of my skin, regardless of my passport, for being the best at what I do,” she said in 2022. “Now there are little girls around the world and no matter what the industry, the vocation … they can strive to be the best.”

After winning the Emmy, Morgan decided to take some time away from the soap grind, writing in 2023 that “a lot of people have noticed that my name is not on the main credits anymore and I wanted everybody to know that it was my decision, I decided, actually back in December, that I wanted to take a bit of a step back from the show. I just feel like at this point in my life and at this point in my career, I wanted to mix things up a little bit, but Y&R will always be home and I have so appreciated this safe place to land that they’ve given me, so I know that I can be back.”

“They’re like family to me and coming back just reminds me of that,” she continued. “And I’m so appreciative for you guys, and all the fans who have supported me along this Y&R journey, but I’m still on it, I’m still gonna be on recurring so you’ll still catch me in Genoa City.”

Most recently, Morgan starred and exec produced Sway, an indie about a Black community leader who is blackmailed by a strange woman after his brother goes missing. The movie just won Best Picture at the 2024 Canadian Black Screen Awards, while Morgan was honored with the Award of Excellence in Acting.
