Spooky season is back and so is Scream Queen Courteney Cox in season 2 of Starz’s horror comedy, Shining Vale. Show creators Sharon Horgan and Jeff Astrof, along with Cox, Greg Kinnear, Mira Sorvino and Judith Light return for as much horrifying chaos as they delivered in season 1. The finale left Cox’s character Pat Phelps being committed to a psychiatric hospital, when it’s discovered that Sorvino’s Rosemary is actually a demon who’s possessed Pat’s body. In an exclusive clip, we get our first look at Cox and Light, when Pat’s mom picks her up from the psychiatric hospital.

In the premiere season of Shining Vale, Kinnear and Cox’s Terry and Pat Phelps move into a new house. Their marriage is not in a good place, after it’s revealed Pat cheated on Terry. As the couple navigates their emotional demons, their new house proves to have as many actual demons, namely in the form of Sorvino’s Rosemary. As the season progresses, Pat’s sanity is called into question. Upending the “women are crazy trope” and in a stroke of genius by Horgan and Astrof, everyone wonders if Pat is just a “crazy” perimenopausal woman. In fact, she literally sits writing in an attic for many seasons. But it turns out, she’s not crazy at all. It’s just a demon that has possessed her body. It happens!

In the new clip, Light’s Joan picks up her daughter from the psychiatric ward, and it almost seems like she’s just picking her up from school. In fact, Joan tells Pat, one day you’ll do the same for your daughter, Pat looks appalled, and then asks how her kids are doing. Clearly not grandmother of the year, Joan replies, “How should I know?” Horrified, Pat says, “You were supposed to be taking care of them!” As usual, the dark comedy is pulsing through every scene, and Light and Cox play off each other brilliantly. As Pat gets her things, the nurse apologizes, “Sorry we couldn’t get your husband’s blood out of your shirt, and here’s a prescription for lithium for 600mgs.” Joan quickly objects, “That’s a pediatric dose! I’m on 900!” Watch the full clip to get a taste of what’s in store for season 2. Shining Vale premieres Friday, October 13th on Starz.
