ComingSoon is debuting an exclusive Simulant clip from the upcoming sci-fi thriller by director April Mullen. The scene shows Simu Liu‘s Casey trying to help Robbie Amell‘s Evan — an A.I. who thinks it is the deceased husband it was made to replace. The movie is currently exclusively on DIRECTV and will release in theaters and through video-on-demand platforms on June 2.
“Set in the near future, Evan (Robbie Amell), an android simulant, is created for Faye (Jordana Brewster) to replace her dead husband,” reads the movie’s synopsis. “To fully realize all his human traits, Evan enlists Casey (Simu Liu), a brilliant global hacker whose mission is to remove all restrictions governing simulants’ thoughts and capabilities. In doing so, he unleashes an A.I. uprising, triggering a government manhunt led by Agent Kessler (Sam Worthington) who will take extreme measures to eliminate the rise of the android machines.”
Simulant was written by Ryan Christopher Churchill and directed by April Mullen. It stars Robbie Amell, Jordana Brewster, and Alicia Sanz, with Simu Liu and Sam Worthington. The movie was produced by Tim Doiron and James van der Woerd and has a runtime of 95 minutes.
