Exclusive: Hear Penguin Prison’s Remix of Chuck Inglish & Chromeo’s ‘Legs’

Today Billboard is premiering the Penguin Prison remix of “Legs,” a funky collaboration between the rapper  Chuck Inglish (formerly of the duo Cool Kids) and Chromeo. Inglish tells Billboard that the track, “sounds like you’re being electrocuted, beautifully.” Check it out below:

“Legs” originally appeared on Inglish’s solo album Convertibles, melding Chromeo’s signature sound — post-disco ’80s R&B, heavy grooves, synths, and come-ons — with Inglish’s tightly rapped verses. In addition to collaborating with Inglish, Chromeo released their own album, White Women, earlier this year.

Penguin Prison’s Soundcloud page is littered with ’80s-inspired tracks — including covers of both Lionel Richie and Sade — making him a natural choice to remix a Chromeo-related project. He tells Billboard, “I’ve always been a fan of Chuck Inglish and Chromeo. It was a pleasure remixing their song and I hope everyone has fun dancing to it in the club.” In his efforts to compel movement, he sharpens the beat and gets rid of the colorful string section. The result is insistent and streamlined.

The Penguin Prison take on the track is just one of four remixes that will be available on a forthcoming EP, along with versions by Yolanda Be Cool, Bee’s Knees and AC Slater. You can pre-order that EP here.
