Sam Heughan works on his alibi (and his muscles!) for his newest project!

It’s Sam Heughan as we’ve never seen him before—as a murder suspect—in the new BritBox crime drama Suspect—and Parade.com has an exclusive sneak peek.

Suspect is a crime drama with a twist. Each of the series’ eight episodes features detective Danny Taylor (James Nesbitt) in a search for the cause of death of his estranged daughter Christina. He’s been told by the coroner that she committed suicide, but was it? Or was it murder?

What makes Suspect unique is the way the story is told with one-on-one confrontations in each half-hour episode between Danny, who has gone rogue to get answers, and his list of suspects.

In this Parade.com exclusive first look, it’s Outlander’s Heughan as Ryan, who is undergoing a grilling by Danny.

Danny: You still got it then? Your lucky horseshoe. Like the one you gave Christina.

Ryan: She kept it?

Danny: It’s amongst her possessions at the morgue.

Ryan: I give them to my favorite girls.

Danny: It didn’t bring her much luck.

Ryan: What are you saying? I should have done more to protect her.

Danny: I don’t know, should you?

Ryan: Isn’t that her father’s job. I’m sorry but I don’t deserve that.

Danny: Forget it.

Ryan: I always kept an eye out for her, Danny. Let Susannah know she was alright.

Danny: You must have known what she got herself involved in.

Ryan: I knew she was running with a fast crowd.

Danny: Did you tell Susannah?

Ryan: She was worried enough already. Rightly so, it turns out. That time at Christmas when you and Christina were supposed to meet, she went on a bender. No one knew where she was for days. Susannah asked me if I could find her.

Ryan (checks his phone): Karen was furious. Told me not to bother coming home. I went anyway. Susannah, me, we both thought, you know, she might have harmed herself.

Danny: And had she?

Ryan: She was in a right old state.

Danny: I will take your word for it.
