It’s that time of year again, and shows are starting to roll out their Thanksgiving specials one by one — and SheKnows has an exclusive look at ABC’s Kids Say the Darndest Things Thanksgiving episode hosted by none other than Tiffany Haddish.

Haddish landed the hosting gig for Kids Say the Darndest Things earlier this year and says it’s a project she’s had her eye on for a while. The show originally ran from 1998-2000, hosted by Bill Cosby, and was picked up again in 2019. The concept is pretty hilarious — Haddish asks children about a variety of subjects, getting their honest, unfiltered opinions, and the show combines a live studio audience with pre-taped sketches featuring other stars.

This special behind the scenes clip of their 2019 Thanksgiving special shows Haddish and executive producer, Eric Schotz, chatting about how they came up with the concept for the show. “When it came time to do the Thanksgiving show, we went to Tiffany and said, “‘okay, so it’s a Thanksgiving show, let’s do a monologue around how great Thanksgiving is,'” Schotz explains. “And she looked at us and goes, ‘that’s not my experience.'”

“Thanksgiving is a very special day to me, ” Haddish reveals in a clip from the episode. “The first thing I do is go to the Laugh Factory and feed the homeless. I was homeless at one point in time and I feel like true thankfulness is giving to others and remembering where you come from and giving right back.”
