Modern Japan and traditional Oaxaca will collide in a secretive bar coming to East 12th Street in October.

Trona is the brainchild of Dreamers & Doers Hospitality Group, a new Austin-based company from local restauranteur Tatanka Guererro. In addition to Trona, DDH manages established spots such as El Tigre Coffee Roasters, Arbor Food Park and Camp East.

According to a press release, Trona will take guests "to a layered five-part experience... to offer aesthetic dichotomy where futuristic meets ancient within the 49-person space" at 1812 E 12th St. A full bar will offer cocktails, wine and rare Japanese whiskey.

How to make a reservation?

Perhaps the new bar's most unique feature is how guests gain access. The Trona team said that "patrons must text a secret phone number to request a table prior to arrival," and this phone number is spread through word-of-mouth. After securing a reservation, they can "enter through the remodeled alley-made entrance."

For those worried they won't catch wind of the elusive phone number, DDH said there's no need to fret.

"There will be other opportunities to gain access to the highly intimate bar, although details are to be shared closer to the grand opening this fall," the team said in a press release.
