Ex-Rutgers LB L.J. Liston reportedly charged with murder
A former Rutgers linebacker has reportedly been charged with murder.
According to MLive.com, Lester Liston, known at Rutgers as L.J. Liston, is facing a first-degree murder charge for allegedly shooting 44-year-old Larry James Dunn to death on July 30 in Flint, Michigan. Liston also faces “felony firearm, possession with intent deliver cocaine less than 50 grams and careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death” charges in the incident.
Police believe the killing was revenge for another murder. From MLive.com:
Liston is accused of gunning down Larry James Dunn on July 30 in Flint. Dunn, 44, was found at 11:37 p.m. at Roselawn and Cloverlawn drives suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The killing appeared to be revenge in connection to another homicide, according to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office. No other details were released. A 30-year-old woman also was also injured in the shooting, according to court documents.

Liston was dismissed from the Rutgers football team in March 2015 ahead of what would have been his junior season for the Scarlet Knights. Liston played in 22 games for Rutgers, mostly on special teams. He also started one game at middle linebacker in 2014. In his two seasons with the program, he combined for 31 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Rutgers did not give a reason for Liston’s dismissal at the time, though he had been disciplined a few times during his sophomore season. After leaving Rutgers, he landed at Northern Michigan University. He told MLive.com he chose NMU so he could be closer to his son.
Liston is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 17.
