While the bubbly flowed in a “Champagne Supernova” after his team, Manchester City, captured the 2023 English Premier League title, Citizens fan and former Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher poured a little salt in the wounds of Arsenal fans everywhere during an interview with talkSPORT.

As he torched them after the Gunners’ title chase collapsed in epic fashion, the Brit-pop icon also fervently dismissed the rumor that Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan would somehow abandon his championship-winning squad for the Londoners.

What happened to Arsenal’s title run?

Arsenal’s stellar season flamed out after the Gunners blew an eight-point lead atop the table, but their fate wasn’t sealed until their 1-0 humiliating defeat to Nottingham Forest over the weekend allowed Erling Haaland and company to capture a fifth Premier League title in six years.

Now, as mourning Arsenal fans languish over the club perpetuating their 19-year title drought, and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola looks to cap off his historic season by guiding his crew to a treble, Gallagher, who’s no stranger to public feuds — don’t ask him what he thinks about his former bandmate and brother Liam — decided to stir the pot, stating emphatically that, after all, Ilkay Gundogan would not be Arsenal’s “Wonderwall.”

What did Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher actually say about Man City winning and Arsenal’s collapse?

The legendary vocalist and songwriter who rose to fame in the ’90s sang the praises of Guardiola in the talkSPORT interview, while getting his jabs in on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s squad.

“I didn’t think Arsenal would hand it to us on Saturday, so I made other plans,” Gallagher revealed. “But it’s great. To win it again is just — it’s beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. The fact that Arsenal handed it to us [by losing to Nottingham Forest] made it that little bit sweeter because they were celebrating it in January, weren't they?”

“I just think they [Man City] have done an amazing job this season, in particular for Guardiola,” he continued. “I think it may be one of his greatest achievements... I think he’s done a brilliant job, and congratulations to them all.”

“When Pep talks about being there at the end, we were saying to Arsenal fans, ‘It's the last six games that count, and if City are there and are on your shoulder... No one expected Arsenal to turn around and give it to us, but I think once we beat them at the Etihad and beat them convincingly, you could just feel that the air went out of their balloon, and they were just gone by that time," added Gallagher.

What does Noel Gallagher think about the rumor that Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan could join Arsenal

When talkSPORT co-host Jim White asked Gallagher about Gundogan’s potential transfer, the 55-year-old native of Longsight, Manchester held nothing back.

"He's not going to Arsenal; there's no way!” Gallagher exclaimed. "Why would you leave City and go to Arsenal? What for? They can't pay him any more money... Gundogan isn’t going to go to Arsenal, so forget it — it’s not happening.”

Pressed about why he’s so dismissive of Arsenal, Gallagher dug his claws in even deeper with a final swipe at Arsenal fans.

“I love it with that lot [Arsenal] because the fans are idiots!,” fired Gallagher. “They've got more fan channels than any club in world sport. There's about 1,000 of them, you can't look at YouTube without seeing some fan channel.”

"I know quite a few [Arsenal fans], and they were giving it the big 'un in January/February, and they know they were,” he continued. "And I watch enough of their fan channels because it is highly amusing, and they know they were, they come out with this, 'It's good against evil, and all the money' and all that.

"It's just like, suck it up."
