Ex-NFL Player Kevin Ware Allegedly Stabbed, Hit, Strangled His Girlfriend, Then Lit Her On Fire

Former NFL player Kevin Ware Jr. allegedly killed his girlfriend by stabbing, hitting and strangling her before lighting her body on fire, according to new court records.

The grisly details were released by prosecutors Wednesday more than a month after Ware was indicted for murder and tampering with evidence in the 2021 death of girlfriend Taylor Pomaski.

The new court records became available this week after Ware, 41, was transferred from Montgomery County — where he was being held in connection to bond violations — to Harris County, where’s he facing first-degree murder charges in Pomaski’s death, according to The Houston Chronicle.

Authorities believe that Ware killed Pomaski, 29, by stabbing, hitting and strangling her. He’s also accused of lighting her body on fire before dumping the remains in a north Harris County ditch.

What were believed to be her skeletal remains were discovered in December — months after she had disappeared — but they weren’t positively identified until May.

Pomaski disappeared after friends reported seeing the couple in a violent fight at a party at the couple's Harris County home on April 25, 2021, KTRK-TV previously reported.

Investigators suspected foul play from early on in the investigation, but Ware did not cooperate with investigators, authorities said.

He was indicted in July for murder and tampering with evidence — specifically a corpse — according to a statement from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

“Prosecutors presented the evidence to a Harris County grand jury, which determined there was sufficient evidence for criminal charges,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said at the time.

While announcing the indictment, authorities also put out a plea asking anyone with information about the case to come forward and share what they know.

“Although this investigation has been going on since Taylor’s disappearance in 2021, the court process is jut beginning, and we encourage anyone who has knowledge about what happened between Kevin and Taylor to come forward,” said Lacy Johnson, a chief prosecutor in the Major Offenders Division who is handling the case.

Ware, who is expected in court next week, had a brief career in the NFL playing for the Washington D.C. team in 2003 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2004.

He was arrested for bond violations in Montgomery County, Texas after authorities said he was found in possession of drugs in April and May and failed to appear for court-ordered supervision.

Ware had been convicted in 2018 for intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance. He also has previous arrests in California and Washington, according to The Houston Chronicle.

Prosecutors have asked that Ware be held on a $1 million bond in connection with the murder charges against him.

Oxygen.com reached out to both the Harris County Prosecutor’s Office and Ware’s attorney, Coby DuBose, but did not receive an immediate response.
