Three others have also taken plea deals and promised to testify in the former president's trial, if needed

Former Donald Trump attorney Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of aiding and abetting false statements in the Georgia election subversion case, becoming the fourth co-defendant to enter a guilty plea and promise to cooperate with prosecutors in the case.

According to reports by CNN and other outlets, Ellis delivered a tearful statement in the courtroom Tuesday, saying, “If I knew then what I knew now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-challenges. I look back on this experience with deep remorse."

But Ellis also implicated former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — who was also a member of Trump's legal team at the time — by saying she aided and abetted his “false statements” about election fraud.

With Ellis' plea, nearly the entire core legal team that attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election in favor of Trump has pleaded guilty in the Georgia election interference case.

Last week, former Trump attorney Sidney Powell was the first lawyer to take a plea deal (Scott Hall, an Atlanta-area bail bondsman who was also indicted in the sprawling Fulton County case, entered a guilty plea in September). Powell, 68, pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts and was sentenced to six years of probation, just one day before her trial was supposed to start.

As a condition of her guilty plea, Powell will be required to write an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia and to "testify truthfully about any co-defendants" involved in the case moving forward, according to the judge.

One day after Powell pleaded guilty, attorney Kenneth Chesebro, the man who allegedly crafted the so-called “fake electors scheme” to try and change the Electoral College tally in the 2020 presidential election, also pleaded guilty in the case.

Chesebro pleaded guilty to one conspiracy charge and, as part of his plea, agreed to testify against his co-conspirators in the case.

Powell, Giuliani, and Ellis were all vocal Trump allies in the weeks after the 2020 election, often appearing in court and in televised press conferences to espouse bizarre conspiracy theories, including that voting systems in the U.S. actually had ties to the late Venezuelan autocrat Hugo Chavez and were secretly capable of switching, creating and destroying massive amounts of votes.

Giuliani has already pleaded not guilty.

Meanwhile, Trump himself has worked to distance himself from those who represented his election fraud claims in court, saying on his social media site Truth Social, "Despite the Fake News reports to the contrary, and without even reaching out to ask the Trump Campaign, MS. POWELL WAS NOT MY ATTORNEY, AND NEVER WAS."

That recent statement bears stark contrast to a tweet Trump penned in Nov. 2020, which read, "I look forward to Mayor Giuliani spearheading the legal effort to defend OUR RIGHT to FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS! Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis, a truly great team, added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives!"
