Ewan McGregor and Company Are Back for More Mayhem in First 'Trainspotting 2'Trailer

Fans of the 1996 hit Trainspotting have been waiting for years as star Ewan McGregor and director Danny Boyle have expressed hot-and-cold opinions about the possibility of a sequel. Luckily, the duo finally patched things up and set about production on the follow-up, which recently released a tantalizing teaser. Now, fans have a full-length trailer to pour over with lots of references back to seminal indie drama about heroin addicts in Scotland. And as it proves, the entire gang has reunited for another round. Watch it above.

Based on Trainspotting author Irving Welsh’s novel Porno, Boyle’s upcoming film — which lays claim to the abbreviation T2, regardless of James Cameron’s Terminator 2 — will find Mark (McGregor), Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and Franco (Robert Carlyle) back in each other’s company, looking astonishingly fit for guys who’ve lived hard for 20 years. Nonetheless, while they may look no worse for wear, they’re apparently still incapable of staying out of trouble, scenes of which Boyle has again drenched in stylized colors and staged in whirligig fashion, set to the sounds of Underworld’s “Born Slippery” and guided by McGregor’s now-updated voiceover plea to “choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…choose life.”

While a return trip with Trainspotting’s cast of characters — including Kelly MacDonald’s Diane — may not be wholly necessary, there’s no doubt fans will flock to theaters to catch up with their old ne’er-do-well favorites when Boyle’s sequel premieres in the U.K. on Jan. 27, and in the U.S. on Feb. 3.
