Everything You Need to Know About the New ‘Doctor Who’ Season 10 Trailer

Geronimo and allons-y, Whovians! There’s a new Doctor Who Season 10 trailer out, and it’s a wibbly wobbly, timey wimey good show. Let’s take a close up look at the trailer and everything else we know about the upcoming season, shall we?

The trailer starts with a voice-over from Peter Capaldi‘s Doctor stating, “This is the gateway to everything that ever was or ever can be.” Throughout, we see some quick shots of classic Cybermen, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of a Dalek, and a glimpse of villain fan favorite Missy dabbing, which is definitely on brand for the eccentric evildoer. In addition, there are plenty of new creatures, including a robot that speaks emoji.

We also get some new footage of the Doctor’s first openly gay companion, Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie, looking as if she’s having a ton of fun in the role.

The end of the trailer shows the Doctor’s hand glowing with what seems to be regeneration energy, causing some fans to wonder whether we’ll be seeing the end of the 12th doctor sooner than we had expected. Peter Capaldi has stated that he will be exiting the show after the Christmas special, which apparently hasn’t been shot yet, begging the question, is this regeneration scene in the trailer a fakeout? It wouldn’t be the first time the show teased a regeneration that wasn’t all it seemed, but with the Doctor, you truly never know what’s going to happen.

Season 10 of Doctor Who premieres April 15 at 9 p.m. on BBC America with an episode titled “A Star in Her Eye.”
