Everything We Know About 'Shooting Stars,' the Upcoming LeBron James Movie on Peacock

LeBron James might be in the midst of yet another playoff run that adds to his storied resume, but we're soon going to get another look at how it all got started. If you are an NBA fan, chances are you're already aware of James' superstar high school career at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio where a good majority of the world was introduced to him and journey into becoming one of the best NBA players to ever play the game, but for the first time we're going to get the story told to us in biopic fashion. Entitled Shooting Stars, the film is based on the book of the same name written by James and author Buzz Bissinger.

When does Shooting Stars release?

Shooting Stars is scheduled to be released on June 2nd via Peacock. If you aren't already subscribed to Peacock, you can sign up for the app for $4.99. Make sure you do it in time for the film premiere!

Who is in the cast of "Shooting Stars"?

Let's break it down the cast shall we?

Top-ranked Marquis "Mookie" Cook will take on the role of teenage LeBron James in what will be his acting debut. Mookie is currently committed to playing for the Oregon Ducks, and will debut with the team this fall.

Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin will portray James' teammate and at St. Vincent–St. Mary and friend Dru Joyce III, the son of Coach Dru Joyce (who will be played by Wood Harris).

Avery Wills Jr. (Swagger), will star as Willie McGee, the quiet athlete who's the new kid in Akron, Ohio. James' high school rival Romeo Travis will be played by the currently project No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft Sterling “Scoot” Henderson, and Khalil Everage (Cobra Kai) will play the role of the Sian Cotton.

What's the Plot of Shooting Stars?

Set in the 1990s, Shooting Stars will take a look at James and his three teammates as young teenagers determined to make their mark on the world. Just like with any journey, on the path to becoming the nation's best high school basketball team, they encounter unexpected obstacles along the way that they'll have to triumph over if they want to reach the top. Those obstacles include racism, criticism from the media, and disappointing losses as a team.

Who is the director of "Shooting Stars"?

Shooting Stars will be directed by Chris Robinson. LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Gretel Twombly will serve as the executive producers of the film.
