Everything to Know About Princess Beatrice's New Fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi

Less than a year after serving as maid of honor at sister Princess Eugenie‘s royal wedding, Princess Beatrice is has her own nuptials to look forward to!

The 31-year-old cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry is engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, a multi-millionaire property tycoon.

Edoardo is a friend of Beatrice’s family, a source previously told PEOPLE. Despite rumors that they were introduced recently, they have known each other for years — and, friends say, they certainly didn’t need to go through a formal introduction to each other’s parents.

Edoardo is the stepson of Christopher Shale, who made headlines when he died at the Glastonbury rock festival in 2011. Shale, who was close to the then-Prime Minister David Cameron, was an old friend of Beatrice’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. Beatrice would have known his stepson for many years — and joined her parents at Shale’s funeral seven years ago.

They made their public debut as a couple in March, when they joined Kate Middleton at an elegant gala event at the National Portrait Gallery.

Later that month, they were spotted holding hands in New York City — then flew to the Middle East for some “family time” with Fergie and Prince Andrew at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo stepped out in London for a double date with Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in June, Edoardo showed off their close bond by holding hands with both sisters. The royal sisters also brought their partners to an important event the following day: as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, their father Prince Andrew reviewed the troops and took the salute at the Colonel’s Review at Horse Guards Parade ahead of Trooping the Colour.

Also in June, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo combined royal duty with family time by visiting St. James’ Palace to support an event for Prince Andrew‘s Pitch@Palace campaign. The couple were photographed mingling with attendees — and despite it being one of Edoardo’s first royal events, he seemed comfortable chatting with guests. Of course, Beatrice was never far from his side in case he needed support.

In late August, the couple attended close friend Ellie Goulding‘s wedding to Caspar Jopling.

Princess Beatrice and her longtime boyfriend Dave Clark split in 2016 after nearly a decade of dating.

A friend told PEOPLE at the time that the separation was “amicable and mutual.”

“They both need space after a period of ten years to see what they both want,” the insider said.
