Paul Giamatti’s girlfriend, Clara Wong, has been a loyal support to the actor as his continues a very successful award season with major wins at the 2024 Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, and now, nominations at the SAG Awards and Oscars.
Giamatti, 56, received a Golden Globe in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category for his role in The Holdovers and gave Wong a sweet shoutout in his speech, saying, “I want to say, I love my beautiful girlfriend Clara Wong. Why you bother with me, I don’t know why.” Wong got another name drop in Giamatti’s Critics Choice Awards speech, alongside Giamatti’s son from his first marriage, Samuel.

Wong has been on Giamatti’s arm at several recent events, making their red carpet debut at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards on Jan. 4 before also joining Giamatti at the Globes, the National Board of Review Gala and the BAFTAs.
Who Is Paul Giamatti’s Girlfriend, Clara Wong?
Clara Wong is an actress from Illinois known for roles in Billions, Louie, The Eyes of My Mother, The I-Land and What We Do in the Shadows. She made her onscreen debut in Pacific Rim back in 2013.
Per her Instagram, Wong lives in New York City. Giamatti seems to split his time between Los Angeles and Brooklyn.
Paul Giamatti and Clara Wong worked together on Billions in 2016.
Giamatti and Wong likely first met in 2016 on the set of Billions, a popular Showtime drama series on which Giamatti played U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades Jr., the antagonist to Damian Lewis’ Bobby Axelrod. Beginning in 2016, Wong had a seven-episode stint playing Troy, a dominatrix that Giamatti’s character visits. The show ended in 2023.
Paul and Clara went public with their relationship in 2019.
It is unclear when exactly the couple began dating but Wong was by Giamatti’s side for the unveiling of the Paul Giamatti Fundraiser for the Denali Foundation at the Yale Club in 2019.
In August 2020, Wong posted a dimly lit photo of someone who closely resembles Giamatti, captioning it with a fish emoji — which we’re assuming is a coincidence and not a reference to the actor’s The Holdover’s character who is said to stink of fish!
Later, in March 2021, she posted a photo of Giamatti on set of Billions. In June 2021, she posted a photo of a very happy-looking Giamatti and wrote: “Happy birthday to this firecracker!!” Wong posted another birthday tribute in 2022, writing, “Happy Birthday to YOU! May it be filled with all the treats you can eat, all the books you can read, and all the Unsolved Mysteries podcast episodes you can listen to!” And yet another in 2023 calling Giamatti a “sweet little soul.”
Clara is a Scorpio.
Wong is reportedly 34 years old and is a Scorpio, according to an Instagram post celebrating her birthday on Oct. 29, 2019. Giamatti’s June birthday makes him a Gemini.
She’s been Giamatti’s date at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs and more.
Aside from playing the role of the supportive girlfriend this awards season, Wong has also been showing off her chic style on the red carpet.
From her purple sequin look at the the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards to her stunning BAFTAs appearance in a full-length black gown, with an intricate ruching detail over one shoulder, her fashion is most definitely camera ready.
