Mikey McCall is a mother of six.

Joanna Gaines has two sisters: Mikey McCall, her younger sister, and Teresa Criswell, her older sister. McCall was a stay-at-home mom of six until she decided to follow her dreams by launching Ferny’s, a retro plant shop in Waco, Texas. Ferny's made its official debut as a pop-up shop run out of a 1967 Yellowstone Cavalier in May 2021. It's one of six lifestyle shops located at Magnolia Market's Shops at the Silos. Along with a small batch of plants in vintage pots, the shop sells plant accessories and retro-inspired apparel and decor.

The show offers an inside look at McCall’s business journey, from enlisting her famous sis for help to hiring her first employee to fulfilling an order of 800 potted plants for Gaines’s Silobration. The Retro Plant Shop with Mikey and Jo had its cable premiere on Magnolia Network on April 28, 2023, with subsequent episodes airing on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET. The five-episode season is also available to stream on discovery+ and HBO Max.

Her fans are begging for a second season of the show.

The show has certainly become a hit with viewers, and many are already itching for a second season. On an Instagram post that showcases her trip to the Round Top Antiques Fair, one person commented, "When are you doing season 2? Became a plant mom because of the show."

Another chimed in with the simple ask, "Is your show coming back?"—and yet another confirmed they'd love to know the answer. One fan also wrote that they hope to plan a trip to the Shops at the Silos to visit Mikey's store in person.

She's always been passionate about plants and vintage shopping.

McCall's decision to combine her passions for plants and vintage items into a shop has been a long time coming. “Here I am 6 years ago at my first shop (a little 5x5 booth at an antique mall in Tulsa),” McCall shared in a post on the Ferny’s Instagram account. “I made macramé in hopes to fill that little space with lots and lots of plants, but probably only sold two! Thankful for that sweet little space that was one of the seasons leading up to the one today. Dreamers, keep dreaming!💫”

The business is even supported by some of our other favorite plant experts—including House Beautiful Creator Class member Hilton Carter, who shared clapping hand emojis and a green heart in a comment on that post.

Her shop, Ferny's, was originally going to be called The Yellow Submarine.

But a plant shop wasn't McCall's only plan for her dream business. "About 21 years ago when I was in college I started dreaming of having a little shop," McCall shared on Instagram. She continued: "Back then I imagined calling it The Yellow Submarine, and I had dreams of traveling around the country in an old camper searching for all sorts of vintage finds to sell at the shop (which also included a coffee shop and rock climbing wall... I was dreaming big!;) ). That little desire never went away. But I tucked it away bc I was raising these beautiful babies, and David [her husband of nearly 19 years] was in med school/residency. And I knew that was where I needed and wanted to be."

She added, "But a couple years ago I started to really dream again. And it’s been so fun! And also a little scary. I thought it was going to be a coffee shop that sold all these fun plants (maybe one day!) but today it was out of my little 1967 Yellowstone Cavalier and it felt perfect and just right."
