Everything We Know About ‘Hacks’ Season 4

Hacks season 3 is finally here, but what about season 4? Max gave us an inch, we’re taking a mile. The hit comedy series made a triumphant season 3 return in early May, with critics celebrating a show at the top of its game.

Hacks premiered in May 2021, following the professional partnership between a Joan Rivers-esque legacy comedian and a millennial comedy writer. The series became an instant classic, going on to win Emmy Awards for its writing, directing, and acting. While many of the flowers go to Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder for leading the series, the creative team behind the camera have also been celebrated for their work on Hacks. Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky created a show that feels current, heartwarming, and genuinely hilarious. What else could we ask for?

So, what will we see in season 3?

This nine-episode season will feature all of the familiar faces we’ve come to love—Jean Smart’s Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder’s Ava Daniels, plus Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Megan Stalter, Paul W. Downs, and Kaitlin Olson. In the season 2 finale, we saw Deborah achieve industry acclaim for her self-released hour-long comedy special, before promptly firing Ava in a “be free, little bird” kind of way. Season 3 will follow the legendary comedienne through her second wind of fame, while Ava works to kickstart her own budding career (missing Deborah all the while). These showrunners know what we want, so our girls are not kept apart for long, thrown back together into partnership early in the season, as God intended.

The first two episodes premiered on Max on May 2nd, with two episodes to drop weekly, culminating in the season finale on May 30th. This month will be fleeting, but it will be funny.

Heard. What do we know about season 4?

The series has yet to be renewed by Max for a fourth season, but obviously it will. It’s just a matter of time. The question is, how long will we have to wait? Lucky for Hacks fans, the hiatus between seasons 3 and 4 will likely be far more brief than the two-year long wait we just suffered through. Season 3 of the show was delayed amid the SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, and further as one of the series’ dual stars, Jean Smart, underwent heart surgery.

The TL;DR here is this, we know nothing about a fourth season of Hacks. That said, we’re putting our money on it—we’re getting a fourth season. In the meantime, enjoy season 3 and get those streaming numbers up.
