Despite all her best efforts, Georgia Miller’s in trouble again, and (as per usual) her daughter, Ginny, is left to deal with the consequences. After season 2 of Ginny & Georgia dropped in January 2023, the Gilmore Girls-adjacent crime dramedy shot to the top of the Netflix charts, amassing 56 million views in five weeks—per Netflix’s own measurements—and leaving fans with a juicy, perplexing cliffhanger in the season’s final moments. Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, who play the show’s titular mom-and-daughter pair, are clearly eager to explore how their characters will get out of this particular bind. Here’s what we know so far about the series’ upcoming third (and fourth!) chapter.

Has Ginny & Georgia been renewed for season 3?

Yes—in fact, Netflix has renewed the series for both seasons 3 and 4. The streamer announced the news in a video with the cast on May 17, 2023.

There will also be a changing of the guard: Showrunner Debra J. Fisher will hand over the reins to showrunner and executive producer Sarah Glinski (a Degrassi alumna), who will helm the next two seasons, per The Wrap.

Ahead of season 2’s launch, Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert had shared her hopes for season 3 with Deadline, explaining that “there’s very much a strategy in place,” and that “we have to wait to see how [season 2] does and if we’re going to see season 3, but I certainly hope we do because it’s going to be a wild ride.”

Co-showrunner Debra J. Fisher echoed this sentiment to TODAY.com, sharing, “Sarah and I obviously know—in [the event of] of a season 3—where we’re going. We spent all of season 1 breaking [the Millers] apart. And [the season 2 finale] is such a pivotal moment because it’s the first time when all three of them are on the same page and united, truly.”

When will season 3 of Ginny & Georgia come out?

Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for season 3, but as of April 2024, the show is in production in Toronto. Netflix confirmed the news on social:

Alongside the announcement, Lampert released the following statement: “We ended [season 2] with Georgia arrested for murder—ruining her fairy tale wedding and leaving the fate of the Miller family hanging in the balance. It's always been Ginny & Georgia against the world, but the world has never come for them quite as hard as it will in [season 3]. We are beyond excited to finally kick off production and keep bringing our fans the characters they love.”

What would season 3 of Ginny & Georgia be about?

As Lampert mentions above, season 2 ended with Georgia’s surprise arrest, taking place moments after she finally marries Mayor Paul Randolph (Scott Porter) at City Hall. At this point, Ginny and her on-again, off-again boyfriend Marcus (Felix Mallard) have split up, and there’s a complicated relationship festering between Georgia and Austin (Diesel La Torraca): Her son witnessed her smother a dying man with a pillow, eventually leading to her arrest.

In January 2023, Lampert told Deadline she thinks the writers did a good job setting up the stakes for season 3. “I think we’ve set up a lot of really great possibilities in the sense that, just playing out hypotheticals, if Georgia is being charged with this crime, we have Zion, he’s Ginny’s dad, we have [Georgia’s ex] Gil in the picture now,” she said. “I think, previous to this, he had no chance at custody because he was a convicted felon, but who knows now? And we’ve got Paul, who’s the stepdad. We have so many golden possibilities for storytelling based on how rich these characters are, and based on how many surprises we want to throw into season 3 that I’m being coy about but we do have it planned out.”

Fisher also told The Wrap, “We know where season 3 begins and ends, and we know the endgame.”

Who will return to Ginny & Georgia season 3?

Howey, Gentry, and La Torraca are confirmed to return as the core Millers. In addition, fans can expect Porter back as Paul, in addition to Mallard, Sara Waisglass (Max), Katie Douglas (Abby), Chelsea Clark (Norah), Jennifer Robertson (Ellen), Raymond Ablack (Joe), and Nathan Mitchell (Zion).
