Everything You Need to Know About 'Freaky Friday 2'

ICYMI, a sequel to Freaky Friday is officially coming, which means 1) Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are finally reuniting on the big screen again, and 2) we're old. Regardless, given how major the news is, we'll give ya a quick sec to scream, call your friends and family, etc.

Anyway! Given rumors about this epic sequel circling for literal years, you may have a ton of questions about it. Below, everything you need to know about Freaky Friday 2!

When was the Freaky Friday sequel confirmed?

To say this project has been a long time coming is a *serious* understatement. Like, back in May 2023 during a chat with the New York Times about the 20th anniversary of Freaky Friday, Jamie and Lindsay revealed they were both interested in participating in the sequel.

“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” Jamie told the publication at the time. “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’” Lindsay agreed before adding, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

We sadly didn't hear much after the!!!!! news until this March, when Lindsay herself confirmed the project was a go on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live with a simple, “It is.” “I don’t want to say too much…We’re both excited! I’m gonna speak for Jamie,” she added.

Later that same month, the Everything Everywhere All at Once star legit broke the internet after she posted this reunion snap, which tagged Disney and Disney Studios, alongside the caption, “DUH! FFDEUX!”

Who is in the cast of Freaky Friday 2?

So far, we mainly know that Lindsay and Jamie are set to reprise their roles as the mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman, respectively, in Freaky Friday 2. How-ev-er!!! There are also reportedly at least two additional characters expected to come onto the scene (more on that in a bit!).

P.S. Sadly, we don't know for certain whether Chad Micheal Murray or the rest of the original cast is slated to return, but the one thing we're currently working on ~manifesting~ is a Pink Slip reunion for obvious reasons.

What will Freaky Friday 2 be about?

Despite a buncha deets about the Freaky Friday 2 plot being kept hush-hush, one important tidbit that has been publicized is that despite there being an early draft by Elyse Hollander, there is currently a new script by Jordan Weiss that is “said to bring a multigenerational approach to the story.”

More recently, Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Late Night director Nisha Ganatra—aka the filmmaker behind the Freaky Friday sequel—shared an open casting call to fill the new role of Anna's 14-year-old daughter, Harper, on her Instagram Story.

According to the report, Harper can best be described as “a tomboy with a sharp sense of humor” who's “in a bit of a mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davis.” Oh, and apparently Eric *also* happens to have a 14-year-old daughter, Lily, who does “not see eye to eye” with Harper.

Enter: A double swap with Lindsay's Anna and Jamie's Tess swapping bodies once again—this time with Harper and Lily, respectively. TL;DR: The premise is familiar, but in the absolute best way imaginable.

According to Deadline, filming is expected to take place this summer (!!!!) in Los Angeles, so stay tuned.
