The Golden Globes make a starry return on Sunday hosted by Jo Koy.

A new year means a new awards season is here — and the Golden Globes are officially ready to once more ring in the new batch of shindigs.

After a forced hiatus in 2022 following a racial exclusion scandal, a somewhat quieter event in 2023, and the dissolving of the controversy-prone Hollywood Foreign Press Association while being acquired by Dick Clark Productions last summer, the newly revamped and expanded voting body behind the Golden Globes is priming its 2024 show to be a starry return to form.

Before that happens, though, get caught up below on everything you need to know about this year's show, from how to watch, to who is hosting and presenting, to who is poised to win big, and more.

When are the 2024 Golden Globes?

The 81st Golden Globe Awards are set to take place Sunday, Jan. 7 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, which has been its home since 1961.

How can I watch the Golden Globes?

The three-hour ceremony will air live on CBS, stream on Paramount+ with Showtime, and be available on the CBS app, starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Is there a Golden Globes red carpet pre-show this year?

The ceremony is set to air following an NFL game so there will not be a pre-show on CBS. Instead, the official red carpet pre-show, co-hosted by Entertainment Tonight and Variety, will be streaming on goldenglobes.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.

Who is hosting the 2024 Golden Globes?

Comedian and Easter Sunday star Jo Koy has been tapped to host this year's show. It will be the first time hosting for the Filipino-American comic, known for his Netflix comedy specials and frequent late-night TV appearances.

"I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year," said Koy in a statement. "This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!"

Who is nominated this year?

The Golden Globes will once again honor the best in film and television. On the film side, Barbenheimer is primed for a big night: Greta Gerwig's Barbie blockbuster toplined the nominations list like it did the summer box office, leading the nominees with nine nods, including Best Picture — Musical or Comedy, Director (Gerwig), Actress — Musical or Comedy (Margot Robbie), Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling), and three nominations in Best Original Song for tunes by Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Gosling's "I'm Just Ken."

Right on its heels is Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer with eight nominations, followed by Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things with seven, and Celine Song's indie drama Past Lives with five.

On the television side of things, the final season of Succession led with nine nominations, with cast members Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, J. Smith Cameron, Alexander Skarsgård, and Alan Ruck all appearing on the Globes' list of honorees. The Bear and Only Murders in the Building followed behind with five nominations each.

Who is presenting?

The first batch of presenters announced included America Ferrera, Daniel Kaluuya, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, Issa Rae, Oprah Winfrey, Shameik Moore, Simu Liu, Amanda Seyfried, Angela Bassett, George Lopez, Julia Garner, Justin Hartley, Michelle Yeoh, and Will Ferrell. A Suits reunion is also in the works, since stars Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams have both also been tapped to present at this year's show following the hit legal drama becoming the unlikely streaming phenomenon of 2023.

A final announcement before the show confirmed that the following stars would round out the list of presenters: Andra Day, Annette Bening, Ben Affleck, Don Cheadle, Dua Lipa, Elizabeth Banks, Gabriel Iglesias, Hunter Schafer, Jared Leto, Jodie Foster, Jon Batiste, Jonathan Bailey, Kate Beckinsale, Keri Russell, Kevin Costner, Kristen Wiig, Mark Hamill, Matt Damon, Naomi Watts, Orlando Bloom, Ray Romano, Rose McIver, and Utkarsh Ambudkar.

What is new this year?

Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that 25 of the competitive categories expanded from five nominees to six, and because of that, the Golden Globes will not feature the presentation of its usual special awards, the Cecil B. DeMille and Carol Burnett Awards. Per the Globes' official website, the omission of the special awards is not permanent, but was a necessary change for this year.

Two new categories were also added: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures for theatrical projects that grossed at least $150 million globally ($100 million of which must be from domestic ticket sales), or films that obtained "commensurate digital streaming viewership recognized by trusted industry sources"; and Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television, which recognizes TV-based stand-up comedy sets of at least 30 minutes in length.
