Adam Driver parked himself at the forefront of Hollywood almost a decade ago with breakout roles in “Frances Ha” and “Girls,” both released in 2012, but his career has been far from idle since then. After two Academy Award nominations, three Emmy nods, and one “Star Wars” trilogy, Driver is one of the most in-demand (and arguably, beloved) actors working today.

The former Marine has collaborated with auteurs like Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, Noah Baumbach, and Jim Jarmusch, even bringing his talent to Broadway with a Tony-nominated turn in “Burn This.” Driver’s unrivaled dedication to his craft makes it almost impossible to pick a favorite performance of his; his transformation into his characters is so flawless that each role feels like we’re meeting him for the first time. And what a lovely introduction it is.

“Part of my job is being anonymous and I think being able to live, to observe more than to be observed, is important,” Driver told The Guardian in 2017. “[Being famous] seems counterintuitive to my job. It’s a weird dynamic when you walk into a room and there’s an image people project onto you.”

As a result, Driver’s career has been built around fighting against that image—and any expectations for it—with his diverse selection of roles. After he dazzled audiences with a somber Sondheim solo in the heartbreaking climax of “Marriage Story,” he put his pipes on full display opposite Oscar winner Marion Cotillard in “Annette,” crooning show-stopping Sparks Brothers‘ ballads in the critically-acclaimed Cannes favorite. ” ‘Annette’ doesn’t just take your breath away; it keeps your breath hostage until the credits roll,” IndieWire critic Eric Kohn wrote in his review. “But ‘Annette’ would have a hard time justifying all that intensify without Driver’s stunning physicality to hold it all together.”

Driver’s “deranged performance” alongside Cotillard is additionally a precursor to a highly-anticipated team up with another cinematic “La Vie en Rose” singer: Lady Gaga. The Internet’s favorite onscreen couple have already stunned in “House of Gucci“, based on a true story of murder, fashion, and failed marriages. And Driver collaborated once more with “House of Gucci” director Ridley Scott for medieval epic “The Last Duel.”
