Meghan Markle Kicks Off Royal Tour With an Inspiring Speech About Women's Rights

    September 23, 2019

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially kicked off their tour of Southern Africa on Monday, and the royals wasted no time getting to work. While visiting a workshop that teaches children about their rights, self-awareness, and safety, the Duchess of Sussex delivered an impassioned speech about the importance of women's rights and preventing gender-based violence.

"The rights of women and girls is something that is very close to my heart and the cause I have spent the majority of my life advocating for because I know that when women are empowered, the entire community flourishes," Meghan began. "Your commitment is inspiring. It is energizing. And it is extraordinary. You must keep going. You must know that what you are doing not only matters, it is vital because you are vital . . . I am here with you as a mother, a wife, as a woman, as a woman of color, and as your sister. I am here with you, and I am here for you."

Meghan and Harry also brought their 4-month-old son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, along on their 10-day visit, marking the trio's first tour as a family. Even though the tiny tot wasn't around to hear his mother's empowering speech, we have a feeling Meghan has already taught him a thing or two about being a feminist.
