Ranking Every Kathryn Hahn Movie Ahead Of Glass Onion
I’m no stranger to ranking actors’ filmographies here at BuzzFeed (peep my Andrew Garfield list), so when I found out my queen Kathryn Hahn was going to be playing a pivotal role in the new Knives Out sequel, I figured what better chance for me to rewatch every single movie she’s ever been in and rank her performances from decent to utterly divine?
Now, what did I learn from this not-so-little project? Well, either Kathryn’s talents do NOT extend to picking out parts or, more likely, Hollywood just can’t recognize one of the undoubtedly future greats. While she’s been working pretty much non-stop since 1999 (the year of my birth, coincidence or kismet?), Hahn only has a handful of lead movie roles on this list, rounded out by a lot of supporting roles I so desperately wish we had got more of her in, and typically hilarious cameos in everything ranging from big blockbusters to little indie films where you’d least expect her to pop up.
TLDR: This lady can ACT. She rocks a prosthetic pregnancy belly like no other, nails every wacky sex scene (of which there are a LOT) she’s tasked with, and speaking of her face — she can wordlessly convey SO many emotions in everything from heart-wrenching dramas to gut-busting comedies. PLEASE, can we keep casting her so I can update this list with more leading roles and eventually cover her in my future Oscar predictions pieces? Okay, thanks.
For this list, I focused solely on Kathryn's film appearances (excluding voice-over work and short films) and am ranking based on her performance within the confines of the movie — which perhaps explains some of my more controversial takes here.
Here’s my ranking of every Kathryn Hahn performance (in a movie, because she’s been in almost too many shows to count — and I’m saving them all for later):
33.Around the Bend (2004) — Sarah
Kathryn Hahn never stood a chance in this odd indie film about three generations of men in a family her character unfortunately married into. Her appearance is brief and forgettable, just like the rest of Around the Bend.
32.A Lot Like Love (2005) — Michelle
When will queen Kathryn land her own rom-com so I never have to watch her play the sister/side friend/assistant ever again? A Lot Like Love follows Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet on what feels like a highly derivative — even for 2005 — romantic journey told as chapters of their life. Hahn plays (another?) Michelle, the sister(?) to Peet’s Emily — I’m frankly unsure because her character is basically just there to move the plot along. She sadly could’ve been anyone. Through little fault of Kathryn’s, A Lot Like Love seems a lot like a skip to me.
31.Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! (2004) — Angelica
In this almost painfully 2004 film, a small-town grocery store clerk enters a contest to win a date with a movie star she’s in love with, much to her co-worker’s (who’s in love with her) chagrin. Hahn plays a bartender who ironically has a serious crush on the co-worker and delivers the big grand gesture speech that rouses him to act on his feelings. Hahn’s ultimately wasted in the role, and I’m not sure I’d recommend Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! to anyone.
30.The Holiday (2006) — Bristol
Opposite John Krasinski, Kathryn Hahn is pleasant but forgettable and tragically unfunny as Bristol, Amanda’s (Cameron Diaz) heavily pregnant assistant who bears witness to her lackluster movie trailer critique. I mean really, we’re sure Amanda earned that gorgeous mansion through genius editing choices like “make the logo bigger”??? Anyway, you’ll probably be too busy saying, “Wow, that’s John Krasinski,” to make much of Kathryn’s brief appearance in this otherwise quite fun holiday movie.
29.The Last Mimzy (2007) — Naomi Schwartz
In ET meets The Velveteen Rabbit, Kathryn Hahn is essentially a more dramatic extension of Rainn Wilson’s science teacher character. She knows a lot about Tibetan paintings and immediately believes in the sudden magical genius skills of both children after the robot/alien stuffed rabbit crash lands on Earth. It’s a movie Hahn herself admits she didn’t really “get” but that her kids love. Can’t say I feel the same… While I'd love to see Hahn do more sci-fi stuff, this role gives us less than previous generations managed to give Mimzy (basically nothing).
28.The Family Fang (2015) — Young Camille
I’m unsure what to make of this utterly unremarkable movie in which Kathryn Hahn appears solely through flashbacks with great hair, glowing skin, and offensively few lines. The Family Fang follows a pair of grown siblings (Nicole Kidman and Jason Bateman) who are forced to reckon with their unusual upbringing after their performance artist parents go “missing.” It should wind up being weird in a fun way, but it just isn’t. My own personal theory on why it's dull? The film separates our dear Kathryn from My Baby (Bateman) by 20-something fictional years. SHe's woefully underused and gets to be neither funny nor very dramatic in this confusing cameo. No matter how iconic her bell bottoms were, I’d classify The Family Fang as a fail.
27.Dark Around the Stars (2013) — Judith
In this peculiar indie film, a mentally struggling man takes a grand road trip with the intent to kill himself by the end of it. One of his first stops? To see the girl who asked him to prom back in high school. The girl in question? Hahn’s Judith, who gives an understated and brief but impactful performance.
26.Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) — Helen
Am I mad that a movie featuring cameos from Danny Trejo, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and more iconic men gives me maybe five blink-and-you-miss-them lines from my queen, Kathryn? Yes. Yes, I am. Especially after suffering through an hour and 31 minutes of 1970s newscasters Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone going at each other, and then going at each other, and then going at each other (again).
Anchorman (of course) follows Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and co. (Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell, David Koechner), a popular newscaster who knows nothing of journalism and will, as Hahn's Helen reveals to Veronica in the film, read anything, AN-Y-THIN-G on that teleprompter. While she gives a fun performance here, Hahn's role in Anchorman is just too small to compete with the likes of what's to come on this list.
25.The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009) — Babs Merrick
Finally, we’re letting Kathryn Hahn be funny! But, oh wait, oh no, it’s one of those 2000s movies filled with mostly male comedians who were also on The Office and are all besties with each other.
TLDR: Kathryn plays an inappropriately horny car salesperson in a rampantly un-funny boys’ club. Starring Jeremy Piven, Ving Rhames, James Brolin, David Koechner, Ed Helms, Tony Hale, Ken Jeong, Rob Riggle, Alan Thicke, and Craig Robinson, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard is essentially Anchorman (see #25) but with smarmy men working at warring car dealerships as opposed to newsrooms. Hahn plays Babs Merrick, a character who introduces herself with the line “Yes, the rug matches the drapes.” With what she had to work with, I’d say Hahn delivers a solid performance. But would I recommend you hurry to revisit this forgotten 2009 comedy (streaming for free, might I add)? Definitely not.
24.The Visit (2015) — Loretta Jamison
Of course, power-mom actor Kathryn Hahn would play the semi-dismissive, mostly absent mother in an only-okay horror movie. Hahn is Loretta, a mother of two who sends her young teens off for a visit with her estranged parents - her children’s supposed grandparents. Spoiler alert — something is seriously up with Nana and Pop Pop, which leads to what is easily the best scene in this entire found-footage-headache of a movie. When the kids reach a breaking point with their grandparents' bizarre behavior, they Skype(!) with Loretta (who was supposed to be living her best life on a tropical cruise with her boyfriend, BTW) to present all the shaky-cam evidence they’ve gathered. Loretta then gets to deliver the bone-chilling line: “Those aren’t your grandparents.” Sadly, for all that unnerving potential, this film — including Kathryn’s performance — falls fairly flat. Better luck next time, Nana!
23.The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) — Odessa Mitty
Dressed in what Hahn herself describes as a Rizzo-esque outfit, Kathryn makes a brief but somewhat memorable appearance in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty as Odessa, Walter’s sister who most notices when her fantasy-focused brother is “zoned out,” but also doesn’t seem to care. She does hot yoga, helps her mom (Shirley MacLaine) around the house, and is overall surprisingly irrelevant to the movie. Always nice to see Kathryn show up in stuff, but her performance in the whimsical and fantastical Secret Life of Walter Mitty isn’t exactly a must-see.
22.Flower (2017) — Laurie Vandross
Of all the moms Kathryn Hahn has been called upon to portray, Laurie Vandross may be the most random. Flower is a 2017-style quirky film about a hyper-promiscuous, no-filter teen named Erica (Zoey Deutch) who blackmails a cop and then propositions her new step-brother basically in the same breath. Honestly, the most engaging moments in this movie feature Deutch and Hahn getting Gilmore Girls-level goofy with their mother-daughter bonding… Otherwise, you do not need to stop and smell the roses when it comes to Flower (sorry).
21.How Do You Know (2010) — Annie
If there’s something written on Kathryn Hahn’s forehead that says “cast me as a mom or the friend OR maybe even the mom friend,” then consider me that girl from Glee... How Do You Know (not a typo, there's intentionally no question mark, unfortunately) is a relic from a time in Hollywood when they’d green-light any old romantic comedy. Starring, of all people, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, and Paul Rudd, this very 2010 movie follows Lisa Jorgenson (Witherspoon), a professional softball player whose whole life revolves around the game, until she gets cut like five minutes into the film, and it barely comes up again. Totally lost, she starts up an oddly matched romance with a professional baseball player, Matty (Wilson, who really phones it in for this one). But she also somehow ends up on a blind date with George(?) a businessman who was maybe (definitely) framed by his dad for stock fraud. And also, Kathryn Hahn is there! Hahn enters with an almost-punch and leaves with a proposal and a baby playing George's assistant-turned-only-friend in yet another totally mid movie that just leaves me wanting more of her. Put How Do You Know on in the background if you feel like time traveling back to a simpler time: one where this movie made it into theaters.
20.The Do-Over (2016) — Becca
In The Do-Over, Adam Sandler and David Spade play two high school besties who, upon realizing their lives didn’t turn out as planned, fake their deaths in a boating accident so they can do their lives over. Of course, things go awry when the pair learn that the men whose identities they’ve stolen were involved in a medical mess. Kathryn Hahn plays Sandler’s wife, Becca. The part doesn’t give our gal much to work with, but best believe she makes do in this measly movie. Becca shows up midway through the film as a pistol-wielding force, gives us the most standout sex scene in the whole film (which is really saying something, because there's an ill-fated three-way in there), and then body slams her way into saving pretty much the whole world…and with barely any lines, to boot. While I wouldn’t personally want to do over the experience of watching this movie, Kathryn Hahn delivers a solid, funny performance, all things (like the bad script) considered.
19.Tomorrowland (2015) — Ursula
In yet another surprising cameo appearance from Hahn, the actor plays Ursula in Disney’s Tomorrowland — no, not the villain from The Little Mermaid, unfortunately. Her performance as the co-owner of the sci-fi vintage shop, Blast From the Past, is certainly made to stand out due to her charming southern accent and nerdy tendencies opposite Keegan-Michael Key, but it’s definitely a role you forget about up until you revisit the film. (Good luck though, it disappeared from Disney+, with no explanation, last year…).
18.Len and Company (2015) — Isabelle
Len and Company is a washed-up rockstar story with serious heart. About two-thirds of the way through, Hahn appears as Bella, the ex of Len and the mom to their son, Max (who Len tends to view as more of a disruptor of his peace than as family). Bella is cold, aloof, and, by this point, understandably impervious to Len’s charms, and Hahn’s performance does a solid job of portraying that. But ultimately, she's outshone by the likes of Juno Temple and a rare appearance by Atypical’s Keir Gilchrist when it comes to the supporting characters of Len and Company.
17.Bad Moms (2016) — Carla Dunkler
Forgive me for this perhaps blasphemous take, but I just cannot stand the Bad Moms franchise (and yes, I did say franchise, my ranking of A Bad Moms Christmas is coming next). The film, of course, follows a group of moms who, after finally growing fed up with the amount of pressure placed upon them, decide to allow themselves to be “bad moms” for a change. I do find Kathryn’s Carla, the (of course) promiscuous, hands-off mom, to be the least insufferable character of the bunch — and, dare I say, the only funny one.
16.A Bad Moms Christmas (2017) — Carla Dunkler
Christmas time is here in the Bad Moms universe, and just when you (I) thought they were done, these raunchy mothers are back, with their own mothers in tow, for some festivities. While introducing the (even worse) moms of the original bad moms (played by Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, and Susan Sarandon of all people) did add some depth to the story, I took little joy in watching Carla terrorize innocent mall employees during the holiday shopping rush.
15.The D Train (2015) — Stacey
I'm not saying Kathryn can't pull off playing The Straight Man, but I do wonder, when it comes to this bizarre, beguiling movie, why they've let her comedy skills wither away in the background making eggs for everyone while Jack Black has all the fun? The D Train follows a sad sack head of a high school reunion committee (Black) who lies his way into an incredibly messy relationship with a famous former classmate (the charm-oozing James Marsden). Hahn gives a great performance as Black’s admirably accepting wife, who soldiers along in the background serving breakfast while her husband makes an utter fool of himself. Despite her minimal role here, I’d still say all aboard The D Train.
14.She's Funny That Way (2014) — Delta Simmons
In a movie so stilted and charmless I stopped in the middle to see if David O. Russell was involved, Kathryn Hahn is the refreshingly fun Delta Simmons. NYC-level famous stage actor and wife to Owen Wilson’s chaotically neutral cheating Arnold, Delta finds herself in a tough spot after discovering her husband has an affinity for hiring escorts and then giving them a large sum of money to quit their current profession and go chase their dreams. One such escort is Izzy Finkelstein (Imogene Poots doing a truly awful New York accent) who, after receiving a post-coital $30,000 from Arnold, auditions to play a call girl in a play opposite, you guessed it, Delta Simmons. If I’m making it sound like Kathryn Hahn is the leading lady here, it’s because despite her very clear supporting role in this messy situation, she’s stealing scenes from the second she struts across the screen. She shoplifts, she flirts shamelessly with her costar and she justifiably screams at her husband. The rest of the movie? Pretty irrelevant, despite Jennifer Aniston rocking a very cute bob opposite Will Forte. Even the talented Hahn can't make a traditional farce that funny.
13.Captain Fantastic (2016) — Harper
As a former homeschooled person, I feel it is my God-given right to dislike this film. Captain Fantastic follows a family living entirely off the grid doing all the stereotypical things you probably think of when I say “homeschooled family living off the grid.” When Ben Cash’s wife and mother to their six children kills herself, the family must venture into society to attend her funeral put on by her parents, who disapprove of the family’s lifestyle. Kathryn Hahn plays Harper, Ben’s well-meaning sister whose kids get unjustifiably schooled by Ben after Harper’s husband suggests that Ben’s kids should be in school. Hahn’s Harper is only briefly in the movie, but she plays an important part in the unique family’s journey. She gives a respectable, and at times, even powerful performance that I’d be inclined to praise more if I didn’t find this film so entirely irritating.
12.The Dictator (2012) — Pregnant Woman
Hahn once again plays a pregnant lady in Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator. Her brief scene in which Anna Faris and Cohen’s characters hold hands inside Hahn’s vagina as they aid in her birth is a hilarious standout moment in this iconic, crass comedy. Arguably one of Kathryn's funniest bit parts.
11.Our Idiot Brother (2011) — Janet Ziebell
Our Idiot Brother boasts a shockingly stacked cast (Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Hugh Dancy, Rashida Jones, Adam Scott) and a promising premise that tragically takes you pretty much nowhere. When the sympathetically simple Ned sells pot illegally to a cop — in uniform — his family is forced to take him in and reflect upon the dysfunction within their own lives in the process. Kathryn Hahn plays Ned’s morally bankrupt faux-hippie girlfriend who evicts him from their shared farm and holds his dog hostage. While she’s certainly outshined by Rudd’s effervescent goodness in his respective role, Hahn holds her own comedically in this almost-great movie.
10.How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) — Michelle
In one of her more important limited-screen time supporting roles, and the one she's described as where she learned how to be on a movie set, Hahn is understatedly hilarious as Michelle, Andie Anderson’s lovesick pal and coworker who serves as the inspiration for the titular story “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” While I’d happily take ten more minutes of Michelle describing the pitfalls of her love life while wearing iconic 2003 looks, like her grandma-style nightgown, faux therapist professional garb, and, of course, the gorgeous green cashmere Andie bribes her out of bed with, Hahn nails her role as the heartbroken side character in this undeniably classic rom-com.
9.Step Brothers (2008) — Alice
Playing yet another oversexed, underappreciated wife, Kathryn Hahn gives a (surprise, surprise) scene-stealing performance in Step Brothers. Starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, this (for some reason) comedy classic follows Brennan and Dale — two middle-aged step-brothers who start off as enemies and then, bonding over their shared stupidity, become best friends. Kathryn Hahn is the evil brother’s sub-par acapella-performing wife who falls in love with Dale after learning he’s decked her husband in the face. While I don't agree with her choice in rebound, I do fully support her desire to leave her overly critical, overall mousy man — and deeply admire her ability to pee standing up. While Alice isn't a particularly important character in the grand scheme of things, Hahn makes her incredibly memorable, with some of the best lines in the whole film (that she may or may not have improvised). At the very least, to my sweet relief, she gets to be just as outlandish as her male counterparts for once.
8.Revolutionary Road (2009) — Milly Campbell
Vibe wise, Kathryn Hahn walked in Revolutionary Road so Kate Berlant could RUN in Don’t Worry Darling. The movie that reunited Kate and Leo after 12 long years follows a couple who, after bonding over their shared distaste for suburbia and conventional married life, wind up married in suburbia. The film feels like a true Period Piece™ and features Hahn and David Harbour, of all people, as the cursed couple’s neighbors. Hahn is subtly hilarious in her housewife hysterics, transitioning from smiling to sobbing over the dirty details of her neighbor's lives with chilling ease. It’s a solid “dramatic” performance from Hahn, who works exceptionally well with Harbour and rocks a '50s-style haircut like no other.
7.Bad Words (2013) — Jenny Widgeon
Directed by and starring the love of my life (Jason Bateman), Bad Words follows a maybe-misguided 40-year-old man who inserts himself into the dog-eat-dog world of children’s spelling bees on a few technicalities. Kathryn Hahn semi-stars opposite Bateman as the bewildered (and somewhat beguiled) small-time journalist hoping to turn the story into her big break. Bad Words is self-servingly crass, often to a fault, and packed with, well, bad words. It also features some of Hahn’s best sex scene hijinks, which is really saying something (see: at least half of the movies on this list), and obnoxiously electric chemistry between her and Bateman (rom-com with this pairing, emphasis on the com, when?). This absurd, frequently offensive film is ultimately very fun, due in very large part to Hahn’s performance. I’ve got two words left for you: W-A-T-C-H I-T.
6.This is Where I Leave You (2014) — Annie
Once again, Kathryn Hahn shines in a fantastic film that doesn't give her the attention she deserves. This is Where I Leave You follows four grown siblings forced to sit shiva at their late father’s request. My boyfriend (Jason Bateman), Tina Fey, Adam Driver, and Corey Stoll play the impeccably matched siblings, with Jane Fonda, Connie Britton, and Rose Byrne rounding out the cast — oh, Dax Shepard and Ben Schwartz are also there, Convinced to watch yet?
Hahn plays Annie Altman, the once-girlfriend of Bateman’s Judd and present wife and wannabe mother to Judd’s eldest brother, Paul. Her presence provokes several noteworthy family altercations and one impossible-to-forget mid-shiva sex scene, and despite getting the least amount of screen time (I mean really, y’all let Dax Shepard speak more than Kathryn???), Hahn’s performance undeniably improves this excellent movie. Please, I'm begging the powers that be to just let Hahn and Bateman be in love for their next movie! I can share him!
5.Wanderlust (2012) — Karen
If she had even a smidge more screen time, I’d have ranked Kathryn Hahn’s performance as Karen in Wanderlust at #1 on this list. Sadly, she only graces our screens in a limited supporting character capacity, but I hope this top five position honors one of my all-time favorite films appropriately. Wanderlust follows George and Linda Gergenblatt, a Manhattan-sick married couple who decide to leave the city when the market crashes. On their way to Atlanta to face their new suburban reality, they stop overnight at Elysium — a bed and breakfast that turns out to be a commune — and decide to stay and try the “hippie” lifestyle for themselves.
Once again bringing up the fact that I was homeschooled here to maybe explain why Wanderlust has such a special place in my heart, but this raunchy comedy features a cast of quirky supporting characters that would all be worthy of spinoffs in my mind — most of all Karen. A former porn star and present menace in specifically George’s life, Karen is unabashedly herself. Unafraid of calling someone out for murdering a fly in cold blood or telling a white lie and always ready to tap in for some free love, Hahn’s hilarious performance in Wanderlust manages to stand out even in this star-studded crowd (which includes Paul Rudd, Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, and Jordan Peele to name a few). Hahn is a big part of why my DVD copy of Wanderlust has moved across the country with me twice — although Justin Theroux’s whole hippie look definitely doesn't hurt. If you somehow missed out on this 2012 gem, I suggest you book yourself a quick trip to Elysium ASAP.
4.Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) — Claire Debella
After watching Kathryn Hahn gleam with sweat and resentment as a seductively slimy soon-to-be senator in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery I’ve got just one thing to say: I’d damn sure vote for her. Rian Johnson's follow-up to everyone's favorite murder mystery movie — and meme fodder from the last three years — features a Mamma Mia! makeover, more rich evil folks, and the Mona Lisa.
I won’t be getting too into the details here because I'd rather not ruin the joy of solving this whodunit alongside a matching set-sporting Benoit Blanc, but I will say this: I love a lady who can really rock a visor and pull off grey… the moral grey, that is! After watching How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days multiple times "for" this list, I'm very here for the Andie Anderson X Michelle reunion, and Hahn plays the opening of this Knives Out sequel so perfectly, setting the tone for the rest of the movie with the ease of a true leader — go soon-to-be-senator Debella!

3.Afternoon Delight (2013) — Rachel
There’s little I like more than starting a movie and immediately getting to say, “It’s Ted Mosby!” But in Afternoon Delight, I also got to say “It’s Keeley Jones!”
This wacky, wistful film stars (finally, thank god) Katherine Hahn as Rachel, a dissatisfied housewife who drags her husband Jeff (Josh Radnor) to a strip club to spice things up and winds up becoming a little obsessed with one of the dancers (Juno Temple). This movie is all at once off-putting and inviting. Hahn captures the trapped, guilty mother almost too well, and when she and Juno Temple come together, it feels impossible to look away from the bottled lightning of their combined talents. Afternoon Delight is quietly uncomfortable, covertly funny, and features some meaningful, not-always-hysterical sex scenes from Hahn, which is honestly refreshing after the likes of Step Brothers, The Do-Over, Bad Words, etc. The film comes to a close with a silent moment between Kathryn and Juno that I’ll forever hold as an example of true acting. How I missed this one when it first came out, I do not know…but it’s definitely worth revisiting.
2.We're the Millers (2013) — Edie Fitzgerald
Edie Fitzgerald… She's an icon, she’s a legend and she is — nearly a decade later — STILL the moment. We’re the Millers has an undeniably stacked cast that features an early Will Poulter appearance, Jason Sudeikis being oh-so-charming, and Jennifer Aniston in one of my favorite roles of hers. But most importantly? It includes Kathryn Hahn as Edie. Married to a sexually adventurous RV-driving DEA agent (Nick Offerman), Edie is just trying to enjoy her family’s road trip, finally hold that fake baby LeBron and maybe touch another woman’s breasts for the first time. We're the Millers is easily Kathryn’s best comedic performance (and one that really put her on the mainstream map, in my opinion), and it’s pretty much the perfect plane movie — in the best of ways! Plus, I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it 1,000 times, that lady really can rock a visor like no other.
1.Private Life (2018) — Rachel
Private Life is an excellent movie featuring a top-notch performance from Kathryn Hahn which I’m not sure I'll ever have the strength to watch again. This heart-wrenching story follows a married couple on their last legs in their fertility fight who just can’t seem to catch a break. Kayli Carter is a revelation as the couple’s step-niece and potential egg donor, Molly Shannon absolutely nails it as said donor’s skeptical mother and Paul Giamatti is… also there.
In all seriousness, Giamatti is, of course, excellent. But I did spend a healthy portion of Private Life wondering why the hell Hahn’s character was with him at all, let alone tolerating his self-centered approach to their fertility struggles. Ultimately, Kathryn's performance didn’t need to carry this movie, but it totally could’ve. She's absolutely sensational as Rachel, a talented writer who always thought she'd have more time to have kids and will laugh and cry in the same breath about just how false that perception turned out to be. She brought me to tears on several occasions with just a wordless expression, made the bleakest of truths about womanhood somehow still feel funny, and gave an end-credits encore to rival that of Mia Goth in Pearl. If you feel like intentionally putting yourself Through It™, consider checking out this quietly powerful film.
