Do you own Bitcoin? Have you looked into putting some of your liquid assets in Ethereum? Can you QR code?

Ok, that last one doesn't make any sense, but these are some of the questions the crypto community is trying to shoehorn into conversations everywhere during tonight's Super Bowl. The growing world made a splash during the Big Game, debuting multiple commercials—one that involved a Larry David cameo and another a blank screen that featured a floating QR code that led you to Coinbase's app.

For anyone who has been paying attention to cryptocurrency, the new form of currency (?) has its fair share of naysayers. According to Jeff Schaffer, director of the FTX ad in which David appeared, that was much of the appeal. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said,

"This was the first idea that came by that was perfect as it was. Who better than Larry to belittle the sum total of human achievement and be wrong. It was a funny idea and we didn’t have to do another spin. He got excited by the idea and that’s what got him to do it. Then we started to think about all the period of time, different inventions and the agency lobbed all these ideas and we were lobbying ideas. At that point, the hard part became winnowing it down to how many we could fit in 60 seconds."

So, yeah. FTX nabbed Larry David simply because the man has a history of being skeptical. Iconic. For Curb Your Enthusiasm fans, the David spot (which wasn't teased beforehand) was a fun surprise. For anyone watching the Coinbase ad that looked like an old school DVD sleep screen, best of luck in chasing down that ever-changing QR code. Then again, the ad was so popular that it crashed the app, so what do we know.
