Spooky beer dinner

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse will host a five-course spooky beer dinner on Monday, Oct. 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m. On the menu are chips with guacamole and salsa, Asian chopped salad, 5-meat deep dish pizza, baby back ribs with mashed potatoes and salted caramel "Pizookie," each paired with a beer from Stone Brewing. Tickets are $45 per person if bought in advance or $50 at the door.

Famous Kentucky chef presenting in Henderson

Chef Jason Smith will present "Savor the Flavor" on Friday, Oct. 20, from 6-8 p.m. at the Preston Arts Center in Henderson, Kentucky. He'll be cooking some of his favorite dishes and signing copies of his new cookbook, "Lord Honey: Traditional Southern Recipes with a Country Bling Twist." Chef Smith is Kentucky-born and is a well-known celebrity chef who has appeared on the TV Food Network, A&E, the History Channel and and in other local and national programs. The event is free to attend.

Pumpkin and Pickle Fest

The Cottage will host The Pumpkin and Pickle Festival on Saturday, Oct 21, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be pumpkin and pickle-themed foods such as butternut squash soup, pumpkin cheesecake muffins, fried pickles, a pickle burger topped with fried dill pickles, pickle loaded potato tots, pickle seasoned popcorn, and pickle juice slushies. The brew bridge will even be selling pickle beer.

More than 100 local artisans and vendors will be showcasing their wares, and on Saturday there will be a pickle and pumpkin costume contest (you can dress up as a pickle, or just choose pickle or pumpkin-themed clothing) with categories for adults, kids, groups or families, and pets.

Dinner and a movie

The First Presbyterian Church will present Dinner and a Movie on Saturday, Oct. 21, beginning at 5:45 p.m. Enjoy a Charlie Chaplin silent movie with live organ accompaniment, then enjoy an unlimited soup dinner. Tickets are $20. Benefits will support the First Presbyterian musicians' summer camp. Call for tickets.

Fall Fish Fry

The Fort Branch Masonic Lodge 696 will be holding a fall fish fry fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 20, from 4-7 p.m. On the menu are fried fish, French fries, baked beans, potato salad, hushpuppies and beverages. Chili Cook Off and Jack-o'-lantern contest

The New Life Church will host a chili cook off and Jack-o'-lantern contest on Sunday, Oct. 22, beginning at 10:40 a.m. after services end. Participants will bring chili to taste and the public will vote by placing dollars in each cook's tip jar. Proceeds will benefit New Life Youth.

Love at First Bite

Love at First Bite: by A Taste of Cuba, is a new food truck in Evansville, serving both Cuban and American specialties. On the menu are Cuban beef empanadas, lechon asado (roasted pork) with black beans and rice, ropa vieja (a stew made with flank steak,) guava pastelitos (turnovers) and Key lime pie.
