Evangel Christian soared to a 57-27 victory over Kentucky County Day during the first round of the Kentucky Boys All-A Classic on Thursday at McBrayer Arena at Eastern Kentucky University.

With the win, the Eagles (9-7) advance to Friday's quarterfinal to face Todd County Central (16-4) at 6:30 p.m.

Cyr Malonga led the Eagles with 11 points as nearly every player on the team scored in the rout as coach Larry Miller kept his players' legs fresh. Nobody played more than 20 minutes in the game.

The Bearcats shot 19% (7 of 36) and turned the ball over 18 times. Evangel Christian held KCD to two points in the second quarter and four in the third.

Jack Lekites scored eight points for the Bearcats.

As one of the top teams in the Fourth Region, Todd County Central could pose a threat to Evangel Christian's hopes of making it to the title game. But if the Eagles continue to share the ball and play relentless defense, it'll be hard for any team to keep them from flying to the championship.
