There are few celebrity couples we’re more curious about than Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling. It’s not just that they’re both beautiful and mysterious — they’re also both super private, which means we have to leap on whatever tidbits we can pick up about their home life. So when Mendes opened up about how creative and empowered she and Gosling’s young daughters are, our ears definitely perked up.

Us Weekly reports that Mendes couldn’t help but gush over 5-year-old Esmeralda and 3-year-old Amada at a conference in Los Angeles this weekend. “My two little girls are already these little self-empowered women,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I need to get out of the way and you guys lead.'”

Mendes added that her daughters are a “great inspiration,” saying: “I just want to get out of their way because they’re already these amazing creative beings.”

The Hitch star is the first to admit that becoming a mother turned her life upside down, whether it’s the transformative experience of watching her girls grow up like this or the realization that she no longer has time for a lot of her “pre-motherhood” routine.

“I haven’t been to the dry cleaners in about five years,” Mendes said. “I have little girls…so do the math.” And Mendes admits she’s put her acting career on hold too. In a recent Instagram comment, she responded to a fan’s question about when they could expect to see her in a new movie.

“As a mother now, there are many roles I won’t do. There are many subject matters that I don’t want to be involved with, so it limits my choices and I’m fine with that. I have to set an example for my girls now. But no worry, I got some side hustles. Ha! Thanks for asking. All the best for 2020.”
