Fans might have been hoping that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes would break their relationship rule of not appearing in public together and finally make their Oscars red carpet debut. Alas, it didn’t happen. There’s no need to worry, though, Mendes made it to the Oscars in a way people didn’t expect.

On Sunday, the 50-year-old actress revealed on Instagram just how proud she is of her man, who is not only a Best Supporting Actor nominee for Barbie, but he’s also performing “I’m Just Ken” on the Dolby Theatre stage. While Mendes won’t see him live in person on Sunday, she made sure to see it on Saturday. Each year, the day before the big show, there is a dress rehearsal for all of the musical numbers, and Gosling’s love made sure to be there for him.

Mendes shared a short video clip of herself dressed in a long denim skirt, black tank, white long-sleeve shirt, and a denim jacket. She tipped her black hat while she leaned against “Dressing Room 10” which just happened to be Gosling’s dressing room. His name with the Oscar icon rested just by her head. Mendes wrote in the caption, “Always by my man.” She was there to help bring out his “Kenergy” and remind him that he’s “Kenough.”

Even though this is Gosling’s third Oscar nomination, singing at the show brings out the next-level nerves. Mendes’ sweet gesture to root him on shows how well they’ve navigated their relationship rules in Hollywood. They haven’t wavered, even in the era of Barbie mania. Mendes reminded fans in April 2023 on an Instagram post that “don’t do those things together,” meaning red carpet snapshots during the promotional tour and award show season were not going to happen. They aren’t interested in “exposing the very private life that we value,” which includes their two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 7.

So who did Gosling bring to the Oscars? It wasn’t his mother, Donna Gosling, this time around. It was his older sister, Mandi Gosling, 47, who was sitting proudly by his side. But we can guarantee that Mendes and their two daughters loudly cheered Dad on as he danced and sang his way to Oscar history.
