European Film Academy to Honor Producer Uljana Kim

Uljana Kim, the Korean-Kyrgyzstani producer of such acclaimed documentaries as Mariupolis and The Natural History of Destruction, will be honored at this year’s European Film Awards with the 2023 Eurimages International Co-Production award.

The award is backed by pan-European co-production fund Eurimages.

Born to a Korean family in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, Kim is one of Eastern Europe’s leading film producers. Her production and distribution company Studio Uljana Kim, based in Vilnius, Lithuania, has produced 34 feature and documentary films, most of which premiered at the most important international film festivals.

Some of her most successful features include Ignas Jonynas’ thriller The Gambler (2013), Kristijonas Vildžiūnas’ The Lease (2002), and Tomas Vengris’s Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius from this year.

Kim has co-produced 10 films with Eurimages’ support, six of which as a majority producer.

In a statement, the European Film Academy said Kim was being honored “to mark her outstanding commitment to co-production and the strong co-producing partnerships she has built up over the years. It is also an acknowledgment of the excellent track record of her company in the competitive arena of the Eurimages co-production support program.”

Kim will be honored at the European Film Awards gala in Berlin on Dec. 9.
