Fans of the HBO high school drama Euphoria will have to wait a little longer for the next installment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on the series’ third season has been delayed as creator Sam Levinson continues to develop scripts.

In the meantime, the cast which includes Zendaya, Sidney Sweeney, and Alexa Demie, can seek additional roles in entertainment. Although production has been postponed, talent has not been released from their contracts. HBO still plans to debut Euphoria season three in 2025.

“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” explained a statement from HBO to THR. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Alexa Demie, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, Zendaya, Barbie Ferreira and Sydney Sweeney attend the HBO Max FYC event for “Euphoria” at Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on April 20, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.

The series concluded season two with cliffhangers in 2022 and was renewed for a third in that same year. Since then, however, actress Barbie Ferreira has revealed she will not be returning. Additionally, star Angus Cloud passed away in 2023 from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other drugs.

Earlier this month Nika King, who plays Zendaya’s mother on the show, went viral for a standup routine that joked about the pause in between filming.

“Season 3 is coming out… I don’t f**king know,” she announced to the audience. “Don’t ask me. I don’t know.”

In past interviews, Zendaya has shared her hopes for the Euphoria story.

“I think, collectively, as a people, we all needed a little bit of hope,” explained the acclaimed actress. “We needed something to look forward to, some goodness and some joy, and trying to find that in a very painful time.”
