Ethan Hawke Curates ‘All That Jazz,’ ‘Paris, Texas,’ and More for Galerie Film Club, Now on Apple TV and Roku

Ethan Hawke is flexing his cinephile status as the latest curator for film club platform Galerie, just in time for the collection to launch on streaming apps Apple TV and Roku.

Galerie was founded in November 2023 by production company Indian Paintbrush. Galerie is led by Andy Shapiro, chief innovation officer, who has been with Indian Paintbrush since 2018. The program has subscriptions for $10 per month, with filmmakers and artists like Wes Anderson, Mike Mills, Taylor Russell, Karyn Kusama, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, James Gray, Lukas Dhont, Reinaldo Marcus Green, and Kim Gordon serving as curators and film conversation panelists.

Hawke’s tenure as this month’s curator coincides with Galerie being unveiled on streaming platforms to host a variety of new interactive experiences for film lovers. With the release of its Apple TV and Roku apps (to be followed by Amazon Fire and Android TV), members can watch films and original videos while engaging in live discussions and watch parties on their phone or tablet. This multiscreen synching also makes it easy to explore curators’ film notes, filmed conversations, in-depth interviews, and more.

With the launch of our native TV apps, Galerie is proud to participate in that rich tradition as we strive to give anyone who shares a love of film the tools to learn, connect, and discover in a seamless, immersive user experience,” Steven Rales, founder of Indian Paintbrush, said.

Hawke’s selected curated films are screened with exclusive videos, complementary articles about his favorite movies, and live discussions with film experts and leading cultural minds. There will be a live “Boyhood” watch party on April 27, and Hawke will also join Galerie for an upcoming live chat at a later date.

The “Wildcat” director’s selections include “Before Sunrise” auteur Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused,” which will feature a live discussion with The Big Picture Podcast co-host Sean Fennessey on April 26; “Two-Lane Blacktop” with a live discussion with automotive journalist John Pearley Huffman on April 30; Bob Fosse’s “All That Jazz” alongside a live discussion with critic Adam Nayman on May 2; Wim Wenders’ “Paris, Texas” paired with a live discussion with MoMA Film Curator Josh Siegel on May 7 (plus Siegel’s exclusive three-part series of published conversations with Wim Wenders); and Jane Campion’s “An Angel at My Table” with a live discussion with producer Bridget Ikin on April 21.

Members can also stream Hawke’s documentary feature “Seymour: An Introduction” (2015) on the Galerie platform.
