Express holds on for one-point win at USA Bowl

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Erie Express added another championship to their unbeaten run through 2021 season and beyond.

After holding a 19-point first-half lead, the Express held on for a 25-24 victory over the Iredell County (N.C.) Warriors in the USA Bowl XV Summer National Championship Game. The meeting was played Saturday at Daytona Stadium.

The contest came down to the final play when Iredell County elected to go for a two-point conversion after pulling within one as time expired.

The Express defense recorded its fourth two-point stop of the day to secure the win.

Erie quarterback Brandon Hanna had three touchdown passes, including strikes of 19 and 15 yards to Fort LeBoeuf grad Corey McWilliams.

Hanna also connected with Terry Jackson on a 14-yard touchdown pass.

Mike McKinnon had a fumble-return touchdown and interception for the Express defense. Kameron Rubin and Strong Vincent grad Ashton Jones also had interceptions.

Erie (13-0) was the 2021 Gridiron Developmental Football League champions. The Warriors (12-2) earned their way into the game by winning the Carolinas Elite Football Alliance title.
