Most recently, the Domino Masters host shared an update on their wedding planning process and revealed that they're building the house where they hope to host the celebration.

"That's the goal — to have our friends be able to come and enjoy a nice party and a great time," he said. "I don't know how often I'm gonna get all my friends to Kansas City. So I would like to do a housewarming and a wedding at the same time. I think that would be great."

In the meantime, the couple continues to enjoy the little things in life filled with lots of laughter.

PEOPLE exclusively reported Stonestreet was dating Schweitzer, a pediatric nurse, after the two met in June 2016 during the Big Slick charity weekend.

The annual Big Slick event features well-known Hollywood stars who return to their hometown of Kansas City and participate in different activities to raise money for the cancer center at Children’s Mercy hospital. Since its inception in 2010, the celebrity charity event has raised over $22 million to go toward pediatric cancer efforts, including research and talent, according to its website.

When Stonestreet crossed paths with Schweitzer, he was invited to the occasion alongside fellow actors Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Rob Riggle and David Koechner. Apart from playing a softball game and bowling, he also visited kids at the hospital.

They are very happy to have met each other and are enjoying spending time together,” a source told PEOPLE about the couple's relationship.

Over the years, Stonestreet has mentioned Schweitzer has twin sons and his relationship with them. According to the actor, they helped with the proposal and advised him when he agreed to host the Fox reality competition show Domino Masters.

"I asked Lindsay's boys, who are 9," Stonestreet told PEOPLE in 2022. "I was like, 'Do you know much about this world?' And they were like, 'We watch YouTube videos on this all the time.' "

Stonestreet proposed to Schweitzer on Aug. 22, 2021. The Bad Teacher cast member announced the news on Instagram with photos comically depicting his rollercoaster of emotions to the engagement. "She said, 'She’d have her people call my people,' " he wrote alongside pictures of Schweitzer with her new ring.

Stonestreet opened up to PEOPLE about taking the next step in their relationship after dating for more than five years.

"We've been together for a long time, and I just knew I wasn't going to find a better partner in life than Lindsay," he said. "So it just made the most sense. And I'd taken my sweet old time."

"Everybody else — let me put it this way — that knows Lindsay was like, 'What are you waiting for?' So, it was time," he added.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Stonestreet revealed Schweitzer was stunned when he popped the question because he's known to be a prankster. "I wanted to get her somehow [with the proposal],” he said, referencing his reputation.

Stonestreet set the plan in motion by telling her a company was interested in having them do a social media post together to ensure she would have her hair and makeup done for the special moment.

In the proposal video that he shared with Ellen DeGeneres, her twin sons took turns telling their mom that Stonestreet had something to ask before he took out a ring. Despite her initial shock, she said yes and was overcome with emotion.

"You know I've won a lot in life ... but I definitely win with Lindsay," the Emmy Award-winning actor shared. "She is an amazing person, and I am so thankful that we met five years ago."

Stonestreet and Schweitzer are from the same hometown of Kansas City, and the couple put down more permanent roots in 2020.

The Santa Clauses star told PEOPLE that they were long-distance for two years while he filmed Modern Family, but when the ABC sitcom concluded and the COVID-19 pandemic began in the U.S., he moved back to the Midwest.

"It just was time for me to make a change," Stonestreet said in 2023, adding that the decision was made after he joined Schweitzer's side, who was already living there.

Around the same time, he announced they were helping Kansas City residents in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, hoping it would inspire others to give what they could.

"I am donating 200,000 meals to @HarvestersORG in Kansas City. Lindsay and I love our hometown and want to help do what we can,” he posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
