The couple met on the western drama 'Lonesome Dove: The Series.'

Eric McCormack and Janet Holden, his wife of 26 years, are calling it quits.

In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Holden filed for divorce from McCormack, citing irreconcilable differences. She is requesting spousal support and an equal division of property, while asking that no support be awarded to Eric. The filing was entered a day before Thanksgiving in Los Angeles County Superior Court, with no date of separation listed. TMZ was first to report the news.

Reps for McCormack did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

McCormack and Holden met in 1994 on the set of the western drama Lonesome Dove: The Series, on which he starred as Colonel Francis Clay Mosby and Holden served as an assistant director. In a 2007 interview with The Guardian titled “What I know about women," McCormack explained that he was “just coming out of a relationship, and not to be trusted” when they initially crossed paths.

"I'd been dating actresses but Janet was different,” he explained. “She wore jeans, drove a pick-up truck.”

He continued, “At first she wasn't too keen. She knew actors are a lot of work: it would be like taking your work home with you. But I managed to convince her. We had a secret affair the first season.”

In April 2020, the actor shared a photo of the duo at the 1994 Lonesome Dove wrap party, where they also revealed their relationship to the world.

“This is the first shot Janet & I took at the #LonesomeDove Season 1 Wrap Party, circa Dec '94,” he captioned the photo. “Just so happens this was our ‘coming out’ party. No one on the show knew we'd been dating for months.🤯."

Holden and McCormack were married in 1997 and five years later welcomed their son, Finnigan Holden McCormack.

Following their marriage, Eric McCormack went on to star in his most famous role as Will Truman on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace. He won an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in its third season. In 2017, McCormack reprised the role of Will for the Will & Grace reboot. He is currently featured on the Hulu series The Other Black Girl.
