Eric Church returned to Phoenix on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the helm of his first summer tour of outdoor venues, the aptly titled Outsiders Revival Tour with Jelly Roll and Paul Cauthen rounding out the lineup.

Hailed in Pollstar as “having already long established himself as one of the most successful touring country artists,” Church definitely lived up to that reputation, playing to a sold-out crowd at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre.

It’s been two years since Church’s latest album, a three-record set called “Heart & Soul,” released in three installments. He dipped into the awe-inspiring sprawl of that release before the night was through and even dusted off a new one, "On the Road."

But overall, the set was more an overview of his career, stretching back to 2006 for two highlights from “Sinners Like Me,” his platinum debut, while touching on a number of the singles that have helped define him in the country mainstream, including such chart-topping classics as "Drink in My Hand" and a set-closing "Springsteen."

He also covered "Sailin' Shoes" by Little Feat and had his main support act, Jelly Roll, back out for "Homeboy."
