Eric Bieniemy’s contract set to expire but expected to return to Chiefs in 2021

Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s contract is set to expire after the Chiefs’ matchup against Tampa Bay in Super Bowl LV, but he is widely expected to return to the team for the 2021 season, a source confirmed to Yahoo Sports.
Many league insiders expected Bieniemy to land a head coaching job this offseason, a reason why an extension hasn’t been hammered out yet.
With Bieniemy, 51, being out of contract, he would presumably be free to leave and be another team’s offensive coordinator. Bieniemy, who interviewed for six NFL head coaching openings this January, has spoken often about how much he enjoys his current job, which plays a role in his desire to return.
“It's always about getting the right job, and you've got to understand sometimes the job and the person have to connect,” Bieniemy told reporters earlier this week. “The only thing I can do is be my most authentic self — that's who I am, OK? I can only be me. Some team has to want me. On top of that, it has to be some type of collaboration and making sure that the chemistry is a fit, so for whatever reason, that chemistry has not been a fit and it has not been an opportunity to connect, but that's OK.
