Eric: Benedict Cumberbatch Leads New Netflix Series in Thrilling First Trailer

A new limited series is heading to Netflix from Emmy winner Abi Morgan, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as a father on a desperate search for his missing nine-year-old son.

Eric takes place in 1980s New York, featuring Cumberbatch as Vincent, a puppeteer behind a hugely popular children's television show. Struggling with the loss of his son Edgar, Vincent quickly grows distressed and volatile.

To cope, Vincent clings to Edgar's drawings of a blue monster puppet named Eric and becomes fixated on the idea that if he can get Eric on television, then Edgar will come home.

Netflix released the first trailer, which sets the tone for the emotional thriller by opening with a plea to bring Edgar home before introducing us to the father-and-son relationship. We also meet Gaby Hoffmann and McKinley Belcher III, who join Cumberbatch in the cast.

To the theme of a tense rendition of ABBA's "S.O.S.", we watch the story unfold against the backdrop of a vibrant New York.

Morgan's previous credits include penning the screenplays for feature films Suffragette, The Invisible Woman and the film that won Meryl Streep her third Oscar, The Iron Lady.

She partners with executive producers Lucy Dyke and Chernobyl's Jane Featherstone on the series directed by two-time BAFTA-nominee Lucy Forbes.

Eric hits Netflix on May 30.
