Sony Pictures has dropped the official It Ends With Us trailer for its upcoming romance drama, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2016 novel of the same name.

The video features Blake Lively’s Lily as she starts to fall in love with her friend’s brother Ryle. However, their storybook romance slowly begins to break down after Ryle suddenly becomes violent. The trailer also teases Lily meeting her childhood sweetheart Atlas, which will further complicate her feelings with Ryle. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 9.

What to expect from It Ends With Us?

“The film tells the compelling story of Lily Bloom, a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business,” reads the synopsis. “A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan, suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.”

It Ends With Us is directed by Justin Baldoni from a screenplay written by Christy Hall.
