Ever since the first film became a huge success, the Encanto 2 release date has been on the minds of many fans. The original has kept them hooked on Disney+ ever since it began streaming after its theatrical run ended. But is Disney developing a sequel? When will it come out?

Is there an Encanto 2 release date?
Encanto 2 does not have an official release date yet, but it may or may not be announced in the future.
Even though Encanto made just $256 million at the worldwide box office, it proved to be a juggernaut on Disney+. So, it’s understandable that Disney would want to continue with the franchise with a sequel or a spinoff.
While Encanto 2 has not been officially greenlit, an update from Brad Simonsen and Yvett Merino, the producers of Disney Animation’s newest short, Once Upon a Studio, might hint that something is happening with the franchise behind the scenes.
While speaking to The Direct‘s Russ Milheim, Merino (who also produced Encanto) stated that the team is currently looking at multiple ways in which the magical world of Encanto can be kept alive. But she confirmed that there isn’t “anything official to say” for now.
So, nothing is concrete about the expansion of the Encanto franchise at the moment of writing. But there is a possibility of a sequel or a spinoff in the coming years. However, it might only be put into active development after Zootopia 2, as according to Maribel’s voice actor Stephanie Beatriz, the team that worked on Encanto is currently working on the Zootopia sequel. So, fans have to wait a few years for Encanto 2!
A sequel to Encanto could explore a future generation of the Madrigal family. Besides Beatriz, the first film starred María Cecilia Botero as Abuela Alma Madrigal, John Leguizamo as Bruno Madrigal, Diane Guerrero as Isabela Madrigal, Jessica Darrow as Luisa Madrigal, and Carolina Gaitán as Pepa Madrigal, among others.
Is Encanto 2 coming out soon?
