Want to try some tasty soup, bring home a one-of-a-kind artisan-crafted bowl and give back to local families in need? You can do it all at Empty Bowls, the long-running fundraising event aimed at combating food insecurity for families across Milwaukee.

Tickets are on sale now for Empty Bowls: A Fundraiser for Friedens Food Pantries, taking place from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 8. The event returns to the Kern Center at MSOE for the first time since 2019.

At Empty Bowls, guests choose from more than 1,000 handmade artisan bowls to take home, plus receive two soup samples from local chefs. Tickets are $30.

New this year, pre-purchased tickets come with an additional soup sample and VIP early admission from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

“Excitement is high for this year’s event as our artists and chefs are ready to jump back into action to support our community after rebounding from pandemic-era challenges,” Sophia Torrijos, executive director of Friedens Food Pantries, said in a news release. “We know that Milwaukeeans are also hungry to give back through fun, meaningful events that directly impact families in our own neighborhoods.”

All proceeds will benefit Friedens Food Pantries’ network of four free food centers: Coggs Center, Hope House Center, Zion Rock Center and Despensa De La Paz Center. Friedens has set a one-day goal to raise $70,000 during the event.

Friedens has yet to confirm the restaurants and chefs that will serve soup.
